Craigclowan Preparatory School seeks a 0.6 FTE Teacher of Music for September 2025. This is an exciting time to join Craigclowan, with the music provision at the school being restructured following Craigclowan’s recent merger with Glenalmond College. We are looking to appoint an inspirational musician, to be the principal classroom music teacher across all year groups, from ages 3 to 13.
This role will be line-managed by the Director of Music at Glenalmond, who will take overall responsibility for music provision across both schools. The Craigclowan Teacher of Music will enjoy a considerable amount of autonomy in the delivery of class music, and, as such, it is anticipated that the new appointment will be a keen advocate for teaching group music at this level, with an interest in developing a through school curriculum in liaison with the DoM.
Package Description
We offer:
* A competitive salary
* Contributory pension scheme
* Free staff lunches during term time
* Employee assistance programme
* Complimentary refreshments during h ours of work
* A great working environment as part of a developing team and the possibility of opportunities for the role to grow.
* Fee concessions are available for staff children who attend Craigclowan or Glenalmond.
Main Responsibilities
Although this is a 0.6 FTE position, there is very much the opportunity for the role to expand in the future. The Craigclowan music programme is anticipated to develop strongly outside the classroom, an area in which both teachers will be involved, whether in choral, instrumental, ensemble or musical theatre environments. It is expected that applicants will have sufficient keyboard skill to be able to accompany pupils on the piano and to lead rehearsals at prep school level.
In addition to the classroom timetable at Craigclowan, the Teacher of Music will also have the opportunity to participate in the music programme at Glenalmond. The nature of this involvement will depend entirely upon the strengths and interests of individual applicants, but might in due course include leading ensembles, accompanying, classroom teaching and/or wider involvement in the life of our busy boarding school.
The Ideal Candidate
Skills & Experience We Are Seeking
* A degree in Music
* The candidate should be registered with the GTCS
* Competency as a pianist, with ability to lead and accompany
* Proven experience! in directing choirs and ensembles
* A passion for fostering a love of music, with a particular appreciation for our school’s rich history of choral singing
It is anticipated that this role will appeal to a primary specialist who also wishes to have the opportunity potentially to work with staff and pupils at secondary level. Musical provision at Craigclowan is a blank canvas, and we seek a musician excited to be given the opportunity to make their mark across both schools, but at Craigclowan in particular.
