Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Urology department at Guildford. Following the successful centralisation of Pelvic Uro-Oncology Services, this post is designed for an applicant towards the end of their training and will provide excellent opportunities for them to develop their skills in robotic radical prostatectomy and cystectomy. The Royal Surrey County Hospital undertakes over 500 robotic pelvic oncology cases per year and 300 brachytherapy implants. Previous candidates have undertaken ERUS Robotic Training curriculum programs and have become proficient in performing each procedure sufficient for independent practice. There are excellent research facilitates with established prospective outcomes data bases and close links with the University of Surrey. The department has research managers, research nurses and in house statistical and database support. The successful candidate may wish to undertake a PhD or MD during their tenure. The unit has 3 Da Vinci robots with 4 consoles and a simulation module. There is also a dedicated brachytherapy suite. The hospital offers excellent training facilities in minimal access therapy hosting one of the largest Minimal Access Training Units in the UK. Main duties of the job The main day-to-day duties of this post are split between managing the ward and assisting in theatre/clinic. There is a daily Registrar ward wound which the post-holder is expected to participate in. The rota incorporates outpatient clinic commitment of general and Specialist clinics as well as theatre commitment of specialist and general workload. On the Urology ward the post-holder will be expected to manage acute Urological admissions with the F2/CT as well as managing the elective workload. The postholder will be expected to supervise the work of the F2/CT trainees under the direction of the consultant Urologist; he or she will also be expected to clerk patients and perform procedures as need arises. The postholder will take part in the on-call rota at middle grade level. When on call he or she will be expected to supervise the work of the junior trainees on the Urology Ward and in the Emergency Department he or she will be expected to work closely with the on-call consultant Urologist and keep that consultant fully informed at all times on the clinical problems within the department.
