Location: Hybrid (Corsham – approx. 2 days per week) Clearance Required: DV Cleared, UK Nationals Only Contract Length: ASAP – 31/03/2026 Rate: Up to £550/day (Inside IR35, via an umbrella company) Application Deadline: 13/03/2025, 14:00 About the Role We are seeking a PKI Engineer to support the OpNET PKI infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable certificate lifecycle management across multiple security domains within MOD’s New Style of IT (Deployed) programme. The role involves deploying, maintaining, and managing digital certificates, ensuring compliance with MOD security policies and standards. This position is hybrid, requiring approx. two days per week at MOD Corsham. The contract is Inside IR35, and only UK nationals with DV clearance are eligible. Key Responsibilities • Implement and maintain PKI solutions, including Microsoft Certificate Services and Defence PKI (DPKI). • Manage certificate lifecycle, including creation, distribution, storage, and revocation. • Oversee PKI security compliance, ensuring alignment with MOD security policies (JSP 440 & JSP 604). • Monitor and manage OpNET certification authorities, ensuring timely Certificate Revocation List (CRL) updates. • Provide technical assurance and risk mitigation for PKI implementation in deployed environments. • Participate in Service Management Meetings and Security Working Groups, providing insights on PKI best practices. • Develop and maintain documentation for PKI operations and automation strategies. Essential Experience & Skills • Strong knowledge of PKI technologies, including certificate services, CEPCES, and NDES. • Hands-on experience managing Microsoft PKI solutions in MOD/Defence environments. • Understanding of cryptographic concepts, including symmetric/asymmetric encryption, secure hash, and digital signatures. • Experience with certificate-enabled applications (SSL/TLS, authentication, IDAM, Code Signing, etc.). • Knowledge of MOD classified CIS, including accreditation and security design. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across MOD and defence teams. Desirable Skills • Experience automating PKI management processes to improve efficiency. • Experience with large-scale cryptographic implementations in secure environments. • Experience working within Defence Digital (formerly ISS) or other MOD IT teams.
