Your role in the team
The Senior Specialist provides paralegal support for a specific practice area under limited attorney supervision. This individual serves as subject matter expert regarding complex legal research. The Senior Specialist proactively identifies, summarizes, and monitors relevant issues. This role also manages intake of new matters, as well as the data in case management system, and gathers matter related documents for the attorney to analyze.
Key Responsibilities
* Proactively organize and prioritize case workload and drive cases forward, with particular focus on time sensitive tasks.
* Draft and prepare pleadings/Answers for attorney review.
* Gather, prepare & draft discovery related documents for the attorney to analyze.
* Serve and propound discovery on Plaintiff Attorney.
* Liaise with clients, seeking documentation and/or providing case updates.
* Proactively identify and summarize relevant issues while continually monitoring them and updating the attorney with recommendations, as appropriate.
* Draft and prepare motions for attorney review and signing.
* Request Independent Medical Examinations (‘IME’s) and medical records.
* Summarize salient medical records, request the same, and recognize court deadlines for having subpoenas for medical records and the records themselves completed and circulated.
* Independently determine if additional research is needed.
* E-file/submit documentation to the Courts.
* Involvement in special projects that may be required, from time to time, to support the complex.
Essential Skills
* All candidates must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy.
AND
* A relevant Legal undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree or paralegal qualification, and
* Minimum 6 months experience working in a paralegal or similar legal support role;
OR
* Currently working towards relevant legal undergraduate degree; and
* Minimum 1 year experience working in a paralegal or similar legal support role;
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:
* Meticulous work with good attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
* Exceptional organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently managing own workload.
Desirable Skills
* 2.1 or above in law related Degree.
* Relevant postgraduate qualification.
* Previous experience within US business or jurisdiction.
* Experience working within an international organization.
* Experience of personal injury insurance claims.
Supervisory Responsibilities
* This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
