Clinical Lead Sequoia Therapeutic Community
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an enthusiastic clinician to join our Complex Emotional Needs Pathway and clinically lead our team of five Therapists within Sequoia Therapeutic Community. Sequoia is AIMS accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry and delivers Mentalisation-Based Therapy in a structured 2 year (minimum) programme to adults with complex emotional needs. Main duties of the job
To be an integral member of the Complex Emotional Needs Pathway and to work directly into Sequoia Therapeutic Community taking responsibility for the clinical leadership and effective running of Sequoia. Sequoia Therapeutic Community provides a 2 year (minimum) structured therapy programme and specialist key work for adults with a presentation consistent with the diagnostic criteria of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder but not exclusive to this diagnosis. Clinical leadership includes reviewing, developing and auditing the ongoing quality of the service, ensuring a commitment to the evidence-based therapeutic models adopted by the therapeutic community including Mentalisation-Based Therapy. Responsibilities include providing direct line management and supervision of the team and contributing to the delivery of both individual and group therapies while taking into account strategic and operational planning.

Job responsibilities
1. Work as an integral member of the Complex Emotional Needs pathway, attending meetings and contributing to the ongoing development of the pathway.
2. Work directly into Sequoia Therapeutic Community, providing both direct line management to the Therapists within the team and contribute to direct delivery of evidence-based therapies namely Mentalisation Based Therapy.
3. To work alongside senior clinicians of the service to ensure that the treatment programme is delivered, monitored and evaluated, including group work as required.
4. To be committed to effective team working and to the coherent delivery of the evidence-based treatment model for Mentalisation-Based Therapy.
5. To promote a high standard of patient care.
6. To work within the Trust's policies and standards set out in the Community Mental Health Teams and Complex Emotional Needs Operational Policies.
7. Provide high level and complex professional clinical support, advice, guidance and instruction as requested and required by the multi-disciplinary team.
8. Build and maintain effective relationships with appropriate staff across organizational boundaries as needed within the role.
9. Provide direct and indirect supervision to the team members as needed.
10. Support staff on the management of complex cases as needed.
11. Communicates information to senior managers, Navigo board, staff, commissioners and external agencies as required.
12. Maintain close liaison with a wide range of health care professionals regarding referral criteria and assessments for admissions and involvement in MDTs in considering alternatives where the Therapeutic Community may not be the most appropriate service.
13. Communicate information in a way that makes it relevant and understandable for service users and carers, considering the possible need to overcome significant barriers to understanding when dealing with patients suffering from mental disorder.
14. Promote and develop high standards of clinical care and staff performance, leading by example and through supervision and training.
15. Identify and periodically review the skill mix required to deliver all aspects of care within the service and the necessary support staff to ensure continuity, efficiency and effectiveness.
16. Have an ongoing awareness of high clinical risk situations, advising clinicians on actions to be taken to respond to risk.
17. Investigate complaints, grievances and performance issues taking remedial action as necessary.
18. To work closely with Workforce and HR in managing the staff team, including maternity, flexible working, sickness, performance and other issues taking the lead in dealing with these and communicating effectively with those involved.
19. Coordinate clinical assessments relating to referrals made to the TC and liaison between practitioners.
20. To lead by example in working with service users within the service.
21. Coordinate student placements.
22. To be responsible for the provision of high quality care.
23. Implement and review care plans and ensure they are of the required standard.
24. Provide assurance that standards are maintained for medicines management in accordance with agreed trust policies and procedures, local procedures and NMC guidelines.
25. Ensure the team actively minimises dependency and promotes recovery and independence.
26. Provide assurance of compliance with best practice including NICE guidelines.
27. To ensure Therapeutic Community as a service within the Complex Emotional Needs pathway develops and functions within National standards set by Department of Health and continues to develop based on up to date best practice guidance.
28. Interpret, write and review organisational and service specific policies when needed in order to ensure the service and all staff are compliant.
29. Accountable for Audit within the service and involvement with Audits within Navigo as required.
30. Set service KPIs in collaboration with the senior manager for Rehabilitation.
31. Involvement with and ensure compliance with CQUINs.
32. Ensure the training needs of all staff are met within agreed resources, within training plan (mandatory and others).
33. Responsible for leadership of the team.
34. If applicable, comply with requirements of professional code of practice.
35. Provide assurance that clinical and managerial supervision are provided for all staff.
36. Ensure high standards of record keeping.
37. Ensure compliance with requirements of mental health act and mental capacity act.
38. Provide business and management reports as requested.
39. Lead with the recruitment of staff members, looking at working with volunteers, peer support workers and apprenticeship schemes ensuring staff recruited have suitable experience and skills.
40. Ensure all new staff receive a comprehensive induction to enable safe practice.
41. Responsible for ensuring sickness monitoring, annual leave and rotas are managed and completed appropriately.
