Mechanical Test & Development Engineer

This is a really nice opportunity for a Graduate Mechanical Test & Development Engineer to join a growing design and manufacturing company in the southern Hampshire area. This company recently received major investment and has secured one of their biggest projects to date.
You'll be joining a small team of test professionals and helping to bolster the team with your industry experience. You'll be checking calculations, designing tests and concepts, leading the process, and working closely with the design team. The majority of the tests are bend, tension, and burst often operating in the 2500-4000 bar range, so any experience with high-pressure testing would be advantageous, as would a sincere appreciation of health and safety.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Develop & carry out short and long-term tests of composite pipe.
2. Manage suppliers of test equipment and 3rd party test houses to enable the efficient execution of test activities both internally and externally.
3. Participate in the development of testing methods (including instrumentation) to facilitate greater understanding of composite pipe structural performance.
4. Prepare test procedures, analyze test data, and write test reports to clearly communicate the objectives, methods, and results of test campaigns.
5. Provide support to Business Development, by proposing appropriate testing methodologies to develop solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry.
Job knowledge & experience:
1. Education – Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
2. Technical Skills – Knowledge of test methodologies used for composite structures, knowledge of different instrumentation methods, good report writing skills, familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD packages, data processing experience in Excel, Python, or similar software packages, subsea engineering experience.
3. Interpersonal Skills – Energy and enthusiasm for tackling challenging engineering problems, team player, good communication skills.

* Hoop and axial compression
* Tape pull tests
* Strain gauges
* Thermo-critical materials
* Bespoke high load test frames
* Burst cells
* Universal compressive and tensile machinery
* Hydrostatic and hydraulic cyclic systems
* Pressure transducers
* Pressure testing
* Material property testing
* Any exposure to Digital Imaging Correlation would also be useful.
