About Northumbria Students’ Union
Northumbria Students’ Union is independent from the University and a registered charity; however, the two organisations work closely together to deliver a first-rate service to students. Northumbria Students’ Union is integral to the provision of the modern, top-class service provided to the student membership.
The successful candidate will join the Union’s team of experienced and enthusiastic staff who deliver a range of our services to and for students. The post reports to the Student Activities Manager, a key member of the Student Experience & Wellbeing team.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to ensure Northumbria has a framework for a wide range of dynamic societies who are ambitious to deliver a great experience for their members.
The six main areas of the role can be described as follows:
1. Administrative: Ensuring that societies follow the Union’s requirements from health and safety to financial processes.
2. Event Management: Overseeing the event planning and delivery of a range of exciting social and cultural events.
3. Member Satisfaction: Ensuring that society members have a great time and that committees are thinking about how to make their activities enjoyable and inclusive.
4. Committee Satisfaction: Working with committee members to ensure that their time on the committee is rewarding.
5. Training: Delivering training that is relevant, interesting, and useful for society leaders.
6. Graduate Outcomes: Championing our volunteer recognition scheme and supporting student leaders.
About you, the successful candidate
You will have experience working in student activities or in a similar recreational field, with a good understanding of health and safety requirements. You’ll bring enthusiasm to a role that works across the student body and be passionate about the benefits Student Activities brings to all students.
Our societies cover the diversity of students, and we particularly encourage applications from individuals whose personal life experience, background, and skills will help them engage with these different communities.
Salary: £25,000 and 4% employers’ contributory pension.
Contract: Permanent 37.5 hours per week, 1950 annualised hours. Eligible for hybrid working.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
1. To work with a thematic range of society committees in the planning and delivering of a wide range of student-led activities.
2. To support students in setting up new societies and to lead initiatives to encourage more societies and society membership.
3. To ensure the Union provides high-quality, relevant, and engaging information about the work of societies and the value of society membership.
4. To maintain up-to-date records of all society members and student activities volunteers.
5. To ensure societies comply with administrative, risk assessment, and health and safety procedures.
6. To support the societies' grant allocation process with the VP Activities.
7. To oversee the maintenance of the safe and secure storage of Societies’ property.
