Elvet Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of a known main contractor, for a Quantity Surveyor in Wakefield to work across a water framework. This company works with clients ranging from private developers, local authorities, water companies and blue chip organisations to deliver projects whilst maintaining excellent relationships with their clients.
Duties Include:
1. Performing and coordinating internal and external activities associated with civil and drainage design, in line with client specifications and design standards.
2. Design duties will include preparation of design solutions at various stages of a project; preparation of drawings, reports, specifications, calcs and estimates; attendance at client meetings and checking the work of peers to ensure accuracy.
3. Collaborating with a wide range of discipline inputs; monitoring and protecting client relationships; assisting with planning and programming; commercial management and presenting projects for audit.
4. Attend engineering expos and implement the very latest technologies in the industry, staying up to date with developments.
5. Maintaining ongoing communication with relevant team leaders/senior managers and clients when required to ensure effective communications on matters relevant to the project.
6. Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members, such as junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
7. Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
8. Being familiar with, and compliant with, relevant health & safety regulations and promoting a culture of awareness within the team.
9. Maintaining quality and environmental control procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
10. Creating and maintaining good relations with clients, design teams, neighbours, and other stakeholders.
Personal attributes:
1. Be a qualified engineer and ideally chartered or a member of a relevant institution i.e. ICE.
2. Have suitable civil design experience, including drainage, gained through working on infrastructure projects within the UK water sector.
3. Have knowledge of the UK Water Industry and Sewer Sector Guidance standards for drainage design.
4. Have expertise in software design methods such as MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, and Civils3D; knowledge of integration with BIM models would be desirable.
5. Be technically competent in fundamental hydraulic design principles and able to apply manual calculation methods where software methods are not available.
6. Have excellent soft skills.
7. Have a full UK driving license.
