Maintenance Supervisor
Salary Range: $107,000 - $120,000
Location: Meadowbank, BC
The Maintenance Supervisor will lead the maintenance function on site, working collaboratively with various support departments, to ensure shutdowns, projects, and the work order program is managed effectively on site.
In this role, you’ll bring your leadership experience to motivate, support, and grow the maintenance team, problem-solving challenges and taking action to support daily, weekly, and yearly goals across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure that Drax’s mechanical and operational assets are maintained in a safe operating condition.
2. Maintain critical spares and consumables inventory levels, and perform monthly inventory counts in partnership with the maintenance team.
3. Ensure all maintenance work, including contractor work, is tracked through the work order system by the team.
4. Implement production, productivity, quality, and service standards while driving accountability and resolving issues within the maintenance team.
5. Lead the safe planning and execution of all site maintenance activities.
6. Evaluate and maintain the functionality and reliability of plant systems and associated equipment by consulting with operating departments and team members, identifying problems, and developing lasting and meaningful solutions.
7. Drive continuous improvement of plant operations.
8. Utilize Root Cause Analysis to enhance reliability.
9. Use the Purchasing Order (PO) system for all purchases, ensuring that all purchasing procedures are followed.
10. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as required, including projects assigned by the Plant Manager.
About you
You will possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:
1. A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Maintenance, preferably within the Bio-Energy or Wood Products Manufacturing sectors, or a combination of experience and education.
2. A proven track record of successfully leading technically trained teams, with the ability to coach, develop, support, and motivate team members to achieve their objectives.
3. Skilled in having difficult conversations respectfully and holding colleagues accountable for their work orders and activities.
4. You are an organizational expert, who is focused, confident with planning and pro-actively preparing for major activities and maintenance goals.
5. Background as an Engineer, Technician, or Certified Tradesperson, ideally with strong expertise in Millwrighting, Electrical, or Heavy-Duty Mechanic fields.
6. A valid Driver’s License is required for employment.
7. Demonstrated commitment to safety, both personally and by positively influencing all stakeholders.
8. Proven leadership and influencing abilities.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with diverse individuals.
10. Capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects safely, on time, and within budget.
11. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
12. Proficiency in using personal computers and business applications, including the Microsoft Suite of Products, Azzier ordering system, and other maintenance-related software.
13. Willingness to provide coverage and support for maintenance activities during major projects or shutdowns, to ensure safe and organized outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
Leadership & Management
1. Champions the Drax Safety Program by leading by example in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment through adherence to established standards and procedures, as well as compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
2. Meets financial standards for maintenance by supporting the annual budget review process for maintenance expenses, monitoring expenditures, identifying variances, and implementing corrective actions.
3. Manages performance and supervision by coaching colleagues, providing constructive feedback, building relationships, troubleshooting team issues, evaluating performance, and managing colleagues’ tenure in the organization as necessary, all in collaboration with the HR Department.
4. Executes maintenance planning for both short-term and long-range goals.
5. Communicates job expectations to maintenance personnel and team leads, providing training as needed.
6. Adheres to all policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring that all maintenance personnel, contractors, and visitors comply at all times.
7. Ensures that all new hires receive Drax orientation and training, focusing on our values; includes new and young worker orientation programs, OneDrax and Policy Tech modules, technical training, and cultural onboarding.
8. Provides site orientation for all contractors.
9. Organizes work schedules and follows up on assigned tasks for the maintenance team.
10. Reviews and submits bi-weekly payroll records for the maintenance team while maintaining HR records and documentation.
11. Spends approximately 30% of time reviewing work, checking on safety requirements, and working closely with the maintenance team.
12. Meets with suppliers and contractors, reviewing contractor invoices for accuracy.
13. Promotes the use of Job Hazard Assessment forms for employees and contractors.
14. Enhances job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
