Salaried GP Job Description Reports to: Hours: Negotiable The Partners (clinical) Salary: Dependent upon experience The Practice Manager (administration) Job Summary: The post-holder will manage a caseload, consulting with patients in person or remotely and will investigate, diagnose and manage appropriately whilst providing a high standard of medical care. Clinical Responsibilities: In accordance with agreed scheduling, the post-holder will be available to undertake consultations directly with patients in person, by telephone, online or by video link. Consultations will usually be conducted from the surgery premises, unless a home visit is required or remote access has to be used. Deal with queries and administrative tasks relating to the post-holder's consultations, investigations and management plans. Make decisions in a professional and autonomous matter relating to presenting problems, including those referred from other healthcare professionals in the organisation. Primary prevention screening for disease as per identifiable risk factors. Encourage patient self-care and health education. Completion of outstanding patient tasks relating to the Quality Outcome Framework (QOF), including facilitating further planning for these where this does not relate directly to the presenting problem. Communicating a management plan to each patient, whilst following practice protocols and national guidelines as appropriate. Refer to other care providers as appropriate, maintaining clinical responsibility until accepted by the third party Discharge patients from their caseload when a clinical episode is complete, and keep patients on their caseload when there is a clinical need for ongoing review. Record medical records clearly and contemporaneously to an acceptable standard for each patient encounter. Collect data for practice and personal audit purposes. Provide all prescriptions electronically from the clinical system whenever possible. Prescribe in accordance with the local formulary whenever possible. In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Contribute to clinical standard setting within the organisation and the practice of evidence based medicine. Code relevant data into the patient record to facilitate patient care, accurate summaries and data searching. Attend training and events organised by the practice or other parties at the request of the practice. Discuss with appropriate members of the practice team how policies, standards and guidelines may affect their own work. Confidentiality: It is expected that all staff respect patient privacy during the handling and collection of personal information relating to their health and other matters. Maintain the strict confidentiality of any information or material to which the post-holder has access within the organisation, including but not limited to the practice staff, patients, their carers, other healthcare workers or the organisation itself. Such information may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with practice policies relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. Health and Safety Responsibilities: The post-holder will manage their own health and safety and that of others in accordance with practice protocols and infection control policies when carrying out their role. Advise other members of the practice team regarding health and safety matters when required to do so. Be familiar with personal security systems within the workplace and use these where appropriate. Provide advice on the correct and safe handling and labelling of specimens including choice of containers and their storage. Correct personal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and advice to other staff and patients regarding the same, depending upon the clinical setting and risk. Ensure infection control measures are followed in both routine, emergency and extraordinary circumstances (e.g. pandemic or individual infection circumstance). Practice personal hand hygiene to the required standards and encourage the same in others. Manage directly all incidents of accidental exposure. Bring any concerns regarding health and safety within the organisation to the attention of the person responsible. Identify any risks involved in work activities and take actions to mitigate those risks where possible. Keep up to date with knowledge and skills, making use of self-directed or practice based training when available. Facilitate the training of others within the organisation. Monitoring and maintaining practice facilities and equipment relating to infection control so that they meet the needs of a satisfactory clinical working environment. Safe management of sharps use, storage and disposal. Maintain a clean and safe working environment in all areas of the workplace. Identify, report and make safe any health and safety or infection hazards immediately once recognised. Be familiar with and use correct waste management measures for handling, segregation and disposal of hazardous material. Keep up to date with safeguarding standards including training requirements, local contacts and procedures for escalating concerns. Promote the welfare of children and adults at risk.
