In this exciting new role you will reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager to deliver electronic and related electrical systems as part of a wider systems engineering team. Day to day you will support in the design, development, verification and test of embedded electronics for UAS. Responsibilities Specification, design, development and test of electronic systems for UAS Requirements capture, management and review for electronic systems PCB schematic design PCB layout design Prototype PCB assembly and manufacture Generating test requirements for new electronic systems Troubleshooting of electronic and electrical systems on prototype and production UAS Design of onboard electrical systems, including power generation, regulation, wiring, connectors and bonding Support wider aircraft systems design, such as interfaces to communication, payload and control systems Generation and updates of configuration, maintenance and user documentation, for products and internal processes Develop and maintain test facilities and tools Support manufacturing and build teams with engineering queries through close liaison and provision of updates to design, configuration and testing Perform other related duties as required About You Qualifications Desirable: A BSc or Masters Honours degree in an Engineering or Science subject. Skills and competencies Essential Proficiency in spoken and written English Experience in designing, developing and testing complex electrical, electronic and/or software-based systems Thorough understanding of low-level digital communication technologies, such as UART, RS232/422/485, CANBUS and Ethernet Competent in practical integration work on electronic systems, including assembly and testing of prototype designs Experience in digital circuit design, integration and troubleshooting Experience in electronic schematics generation and review Experience in PCB physical layout on multi-layer boards Proficiency with a relevant PCB toolset, such Labcenter Proteus, KiCad or Altium Designer Experience in real-world troubleshooting with appropriate tools, such as logic analysers, oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers Excellent communication and presentation skills Report writing and information dissemination/presentation. Desirable Understanding of relevant IPC standards, such as IPC-2221, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-2251, etc Electrical or electronic design in UAS and associated systems Experience with integration and/or use of UAS flight control systems Experience of interfacing with external board/assembly manufacturers and/or subcontracted design houses Experience with high power DC systems in the 5-50V range Experience with lithium battery systems Familiarity with common engineering tools, for example DOORS, Solidworks, Python, MATLAB or equivalents Configuration Management experience in an engineering environment Personal Attributes Must be a British Citizen or must have an existing right to work in the UK Ability to live near and work in Salisbury, Wiltshire UK Interest in aviation Good communicator Excellent problem-solving ability Ability to work well in a team Enthusiastic and self-motivated Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK Callen-Lenz is an equal opportunities employer, committed to building an inclusive working environment.
