Head of Sustainability
Based in the Leeds City Centre.
The Role
You will be reporting to the Sustainability and Business Development Director of a major aviation organisation. It’s a broad and varied role where you will be responsible for the delivery of the sustainability strategy goals and targets of the organisation. Working towards finding innovative and economical ways to positively impact the environment.
The day-to-day elements of the role are geared towards helping lead the way in the decarbonisation of the aviation sector, implementing decarbonisation flight paths & assisting the adoption of new technologies & energy sources, using sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
The main areas of focus are:
* Explaining & promoting the organisations sustainability strategy & finding appropriate ways to work with industry and wider media outlets, forming appropriate narratives for each.
* Collaborate with all areas of the business, supply chain partners, colleagues at all levels, customers & local communities across all jurisdictions that they operate in, maintaining ongoing, up-to-date & in-depth understanding of relevant legislation as well as identifying opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint, reduce the use of plastic & other harmful products wherever possible, maximising the amount of recyclable waste.
* Promote & safeguard the Company’s brand & reputation.
* Manage & mentor a team of sustainability professionals, ensuring optimal performance & prioritisation of personal development.
What are the key skills / experience you’ll already have?
You will have significant experience in ESG, sustainability and/or corporate social responsibility-focused communication efforts or environmental science.
You will also:
* Have strong influencing & interpersonal skills as well as strong organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
* Have a strong & detailed knowledge of sustainability policy & regulations in the aviation / airline industry. Ideally, this will include knowledge of net carbon emissions, fleet upgrades, SAF, waste reduction.
* Knowledge & membership of Airlines UK and/or Airlines for Europe.
* Be commercially astute & able to balance commerciality while remaining true to the Sustainability & ESG commitments. You will also be used to setting & managing a budget.
* The organisation is a fast-moving business & therefore you must be pro-active, resilient, energetic & flexible with a commitment to delivery.
* You’ll be used to presenting to senior stakeholders & have stature, gravitas, determination & the highest level of integrity.
