We are very excited to announce that we are offering this level 6 Training post Degree Apprenticeship in Therapeutic Radiography here at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Once qualified as a therapeutic radiographer you will be part of a multidisciplinary team treating patients with cancer using radiation.
We are looking for someone who wants to undertake this challenging role and commit to the study and development that this opportunity brings. You will be supported to achieve your best in this role which on completion will enable you to register with the Health Care Professions Council allowing you to practice as a Therapeutic Radiographer. The career opportunities that become available with this qualification are many and varied and promotion can be achieved within 2-3 years of starting your career.
You will train in a supportive environment and learn to care for, plan and deliver Radiotherapy treatments to our cancer patients. The department is committed to the training and development of its staff and you will be given opportunities to extend your skills. The department expects staff to Continuously Professionally Develop, supporting this through the appraisal system.
Main duties of the job
The department of Clinical Oncology provides in-patient and out-patient care to patients with oncological malignancies, with the Radiotherapy Department treating patients from a wide geographical area, covering the whole of Lincolnshire. The department is fully networked with 3 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators all with AlignRT motion management, Canon wide bore CT scanner and Nucletron HDR brachytherapy unit. Planning is carried out using Varian Eclipse planning systems ensuring a seamless connection with the treatment units. IGRT and VMAT is in regular use for a variety of patient with delivery techniques advancing all the time.
Ongoing professional development is encouraged, with links to Sheffield Hallam University to support this. Many staff are now carrying out advanced roles in areas such as patient assessment and review, breast specialist, treatment imaging specialist and gynaecological insertions. The department has a well-established prostate and gynaecological brachytherapy service.

Whats a Degree Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship will run over 3 years and 3 months, comprising of: -
On the job training based within the radiotherapy department housed in the Oncology Centre at Lincoln County Hospital.
1. Main duties of the job will include:
2. Assist in the daily workload of the department, liaising with portering service, administration staff and other members of the MDT to facilitate the co-ordination of patient appointments.
3. Under the supervision of a registered practitioner operate radiotherapy equipment in both the treatment areas as well as in the pre-treatment area.
4. To maintain a high professional standard of patient care through the interpretation of treatment plans and the accurate delivery of treatment techniques using analytical, judgement, communication and organisational skills to a high standard while under supervision.
Off the job training (minimum 20% of time) - following an integrated timetable with Sheffield Hallam University. The University course commences in March 2025; attendance will be mostly through distance learning although you will be expected to attend a few days on site at the University.
Completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in Therapeutic Radiography, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
The post is 30 hours per week Monday to Friday (this includes study time).

The usual entry requirements are 2 GCSE passes at grade C or grade 4 and above including Mathematics, English language or literature. Level 2 equivalent literacy & numeracy qualifications will be accepted.
Plus one of the following:
5. 120 UCAS points from 3 A levels. Or equivalent from national BTEC qualifications extended diploma in applied science, health science or health studies.
6. Successful completion of an Access to HE Diploma in health studies, health science, nursing, or another science-based course.
7. If you are taking an Access course not listed, please contact the University to discuss prior to application.
8. Previous degree in a related subject.
9. Evidence of successful formal accredited study at level 3 and a minimum of 6 months experience in a health and social care capacity
The post holder will make a commitment to study both at work and at home during the duration of the apprenticeship course. Attendance of the Universities teaching session are mandatory (either e-learning, virtual tutorials or on site tutorials), annual leave is to be taken outside of the universities teaching sessions.
