Associate Project Manager
Role type: 12-month fixed term contract
Location: Edinburgh/Hybrid
Job Summary:
Taylor Hopkinson are delighted to be supporting an onshore wind developer who are seeking a motivated Associate Project Manager to provide direct support to our clients Project Managers in executing project workstreams, ensuring alignment with their development strategy from land identification through to planning consent and pre-construction phases.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist Senior Project Managers (SPMs) and Project Managers (PMs) in delivering project programs, adhering to the strategy from land identification through to planning consent and pre-construction.
2. Oversee assigned onshore wind projects, ensuring the timely completion of feasibility studies, technical surveys, and environmental impact assessments within budget.
3. Maintain action lists and risk registers throughout project lifecycles, promptly reporting any issues to the relevant PM or SPM.
4. Manage third-party contracts and relationships, ensuring internal reporting for assigned projects is completed using appropriate tools.
5. Collaborate with various business functions, including the Commercial Team and the Community Investment and Communication Team.
6. Support project and technical managers in stakeholder engagement and activities required to secure planning permission.
7. Contribute to each project's communications plan, with guidance from SPMs and the Community Investment and Communication Team, aiming to garner support for and understanding of proposed projects while upholding and enhancing Bute Energy's reputation.
8. Take ownership of and drive forward assigned tasks within larger projects, ensuring all objectives and plans are met or exceeded.
9. Play a key role in managing operational requirements, third-party management, project budgets, and addressing commercial issues proactively.
10. Assist in supporting each project's delivery program, controlling costs, managing the scope of assigned work, and overseeing project governance.
11. Contribute to land assembly efforts, grid connection deliverables, delivery programs, cost management, and overall project governance.
12. Manage third-party feasibility studies, environmental assessments, and planning submission elements, as well as support the procurement of any other required consents for onshore wind farms.
13. Identify and mitigate project risks to maximize project deliverability.
14. Ensure high standards of governance and project management across all assigned workstreams.
15. Deliver projects to meet target development milestones on time and within budget.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
1. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
2. Strong personal resilience and adaptability in different situations.
3. Understanding of the opportunities and challenges in onshore wind development.
4. Knowledge of planning processes, including under the Town & Country Planning Act, and DCO/DNS regimes.
5. Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
7. Experience in handling and coordinating specialist and technical inputs from external consultants and project team members.
8. Proficient in IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
9. Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload with strong problem-solving skills.
10. Possession of a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Wales (and nationally if required).
11. Knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment regulations and/or planning policy related to renewable energy is advantageous.
12. Welsh language skills are a plus.
Experience Required:
1. 2-5 years of experience working in-house at a development company or consultancy, with a proven track record in supporting project management efforts, environmental impact assessments, and planning applications for large-scale renewable energy projects.
2. Experience in engaging with external stakeholders, including the public, contractors, external consultants, and team members.
3. A professional or academic qualification in Planning or Environmental disciplines would be advantageous.
