Contents Location About the job Benefits Things you need to know Apply and further information Location Coningsby, East Midlands (England), LN4 4SY About the job Job summary You will provide the appropriate specialist HS&EP assistance and advice to the Station Commander to enable him and his executives to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and other statutory legislation and MOD policy. You will maintain the HS&EP element of the RAF Coningsby Functional Safety Management System to ensure that the risk to Station personnel, contractors and visitors is as low as is reasonably practicable (ALARP). You will also be able to further develop your knowledge in these areas. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description The SHASO reports directly to OC Ops Spt Wg to support the Station Commander and is specifically required to: Advise and assist the Station Commander, the Station Commanders Executives and all other station personnel on all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (H&S) and the implications for the Station. Deliver an audit programme to assure the HoE that Stn output is delivered in accordance with relevant HS&EP statutory requirements, policy and process. Where possible, conjoin this audit with extant audit programmes. Ensure that accidents and near misses are investigated at a level proportional to the severity of the accident. Assist Line Management in the completion of any investigation and provide advice to prevent a re-occurrence. Refer any significant safety concerns to the Station Commander. Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported using the MOD Functional Safety Incident Management System and to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as required under RIDDOR. Maintain records of accidents and Dangerous Occurrences, their causes, and the recommendations arising from them. Review Accident records and present the results at the quarterly HS&EP meeting. Act as escort to visiting HSE, Local Authority and Higher HQ (CESO) inspectors, calling upon the assistance of the Station Environmental Health Technician (EHT) as necessary. Advise the Chief Environment and Safety Officer (CESO) for the RAF and Air Command of the intention of HSE or Local Authority to undertake any accident or incident investigation or other inspections at RAF Coningsby. Co-ordinate the completion of actions raised from such visits, inspections and audits. Ensure that the RAF Coningsby SHEF Manual, HS&EP Management Plan, Site Risk Assessments, Major Accident Prevention Policy and any other pertinent documentation is maintained. Provide support the HoE during the various HS&EP meetings held on Station. Act as the Station Hearing Conservation Officer. Act as Deputy Radiation Safety Officer. In the absence of the SEPO, provide EP advice to the Station Commander and Stn executives. Act as Line Manager to the Station Environmental Protection Officer, 4Cs coordinator and Countersigning Officer for HS&EP Admin Officer. Ensure that they remain up to date with changes to Health and Safety Regulations and Policy. Person specification Essential: NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent Level 3 qualification. Completion of the MOD Noise Risk Assessor course (or to be completed within nine months of taking up the post). Completion of the MOD Ionising, non-ionising and laser Safety Officer courses (or to be completed within nine months of taking up the post). Desirable NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
