Senior Maintenance Technician
Location Newport
Salary - £43k per annum
Full time rotating double day shift
The Senior Maintenance Technicians role will carry out Facilities, Continuous Improvement and maintenance activities at the local site ensuring that the service supplied complies too all manufactures, H&S, legal & regulatory requirements. Ensuring that the service supplied is to the highest possible standard & fits with production / business requirements. The Senior Maintenance Technician will promote the use of best-practice maintenance system tools and techniques, ensuring they are applied in a safe and effective way. Must comply with all H&S requirements & benefits the company's performance in the areas of Quality, Cost and Delivery. Actively supporting facilities and running continuous improvement & safety activities.
Essential Job Functions/ Responsibilities
To promote and ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees. Actively support the H&S committee & meetings associated with the site H&S policies & procedures.
To provide & oversee the maintenance / repair / routine service of the sites processes, services & equipment in alignment with production & management needs.
Ensuring all maintenance / service complies with all the legal, regulatory & H&S requirements.
Support the production team in the application of TPM & PPM activities; ensure all activities are completed on time in line with the annual plan.
Ensure all paperwork completed in line with the maintenance process/system is accurate & legible.
Positively support & drive continuous improvement culture through the production areas with the maintenance team.
Support Risk Assessments & all H&S improvement activities & complete issues raised in a timely manner.
Recommend Capital investment projects to improve production/site performance.
Be responsive to support production needs for maintenance & repair in line with priorities set by the Maintenance Manager.
Support and Conduct operator training as required.
Actively carry out continuous improvement activities / initiatives & Kaisen events to maximize productivity. Proactively identify & make recommendations for improvements.
Sharing experience, best practice, relaying all relevant knowledge & information with colleagues.
Demonstrate good housekeeping.
Actively support the new product introduction process from an engineering perspective. Attend meetings as required, source equipment/solutions & conduct test & trails / pre-production run when required.
Be flexible in your approach to working to support production needs.
Any other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications - Minimum
Time served HNC/HND (Mechanical and Electrical) with practical engineering supervision / (minimum 2 years) desirable in a manufacturing environment packaging / FMCG / automotive.
PLC & Pneumatics control experience essential - ability to design/ modify / build software.
Practical approach to modern problem-solving tools & techniques.
NEBOSH/IOSH H&S qualifications and wide practical experience are desirable.
Qualification - Desirable
Qualifications in Engineering minimum HNC/HND in electrical and mechanical engineering.
Wide knowledge / experience of mechanical / electrical PLC & Pneumatic systems, including programming.
18th Edition wiring regulations.
NEBOSH H&S.
Minimum Skill Requirements
Engineering supervisory experience in a 'lean culture' manufacturing environment.
Several years' experience as a Maintenance / Facilities in a packaging /automotive / FMCG working environment.
Broad knowledge of equipment types: packaging & processing.
Continuous improvement techniques & Tools 5s, Kaizen etc.
Awareness of modern technologies.
Effective communication skills & attitude.
PC literate.
Good communication skills & attitude.
Team player.
Flexible approach to work.
Competent & self-motivated.
Leadership Skills - team motivator - problem solver / coaching skills.
Other Skills/Abilities Desirable
