Job Title: Fencing Operative
Location: Darlington
Rate of Pay: £14.10 per hour
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Total Weekly Contractual Hours: 39
Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday - 8AM to 4:45PM and Friday 8AM to 3:45PM
This role entails dismantling old fencing and clearing vegetation, followed by excavating post holes. New timber fences will be erected according to precise specifications. Team members must manage vehicles and tools with care, swiftly address support requests, and adhere to Mitie's safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
* Establish the location for a fence using detailed plans and gather information needed to ensure that there are no electric cables or water lines in the area.
* Align posts, using lines or by sighting, and verify vertical alignment of posts, using plumb bobs or spirit levels.
* Measure and lay out fence lines and mark posthole positions, following instructions, drawings, or specifications.
* Dig postholes, using spades, posthole diggers, or power-driven augers.
* Set wooden posts in upright positions in postholes.
* Discuss fencing needs with customers.
* Mix and pour concrete around bases of posts.
* Make rails for fences, by sawing lumber or cutting to required lengths.
* Nail top and bottom rails to fence posts.
* Attach palings to rails using a nail gun, in line with strings and keeping 50mm from the floor.
* Stretch wire across the length of the fence attaching to palings.
In order to be successful in this role, you'll need to be comfortable working outdoors. You'll be using a variety of small machinery equipment, and training will be provided if needed. A full driving license is also required. You should have a good understanding of smartphone technology to ensure that work activity is properly recorded by taking photos and uploading them once complete.
