The Data Transformation team within SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is a multi-discipline team responsible for Data Transformation project strategy, design, and delivery - addressing the needs of both internal and external stakeholders across our distribution and transmission licenses following our RIIO-ED2, RIIO-T2 and future regulatory business plans. The team combines data, engineering, and project delivery expertise to develop data solutions in data systems, energy data analytics & insights, and AI.
As a Senior Architect within the Data Transformation team, you will lead the Data Engineering & Architecture team in designing sustainable data engineering and architectures to meet the needs of the Data Use Cases within the SPEN business. Using your data, system architecture, and change management experience, you will collaborate to design and build the SPEN data estate and processes to meet our business plan requirements.
What you'll be doing
* Establish a small technical team across the data systems & operations landscape including:
o Data pipelines and APIs
o Data modelling
o Systems and databases
o Policies and processes
* Steer policy development on data modelling and engineering with internal/external stakeholders, including external data interfaces.
* Develop DataOps processes to encourage sustainable and scalable data provisioning/storage that promotes value creation, data democratization, and re-use.
* Collaborate and design data systems that proactively enable future data analytics and other value-added use cases.
* Work with Data Governance to ensure compliance with policies.
* Collaborate with Business Intelligence, Data Science, and other subject matter expert teams to identify data requirements and integration priorities.
* Work with Business Transformation to create platforms suitable for scalable/advanced analytics and to enable new tools for analytics and data science teams.
* Deliver integrated platforms/architectures with Business Transformation to enable a sustainable and scalable Data Estate, facilitating data accessibility, reporting, business intelligence, and advanced analytics such as Machine Learning.
* Engage with and ensure the implementation of industry best practices in the functional model, skills, and capabilities when building the organizational design of the function.
What you'll be responsible for
* Responsibility for a CAPEX budget of up to £10 million and an OPEX budget of up to £500,000 per annum.
* Leading a specialist team of data engineers and architects with up to 10 direct and 20 indirect employees (contractors).
* Delivery of technology development initiatives in line with SPEN business plans within the CAPEX programme.
* Working and leading within industry forums to steer technology strategy within the networks operation sector.
What you'll bring
* Strong understanding of DataOps and project delivery methodologies (such as Agile).
* Extensive understanding of information systems, asset data, and system architecture.
* Proven capabilities in information and system change delivery in an operational environment.
To be successful, as a minimum you will have
* Degree qualified in Computer Science, Data, or a related discipline.
* Experience leading a team, with strong leadership and people management skills.
* Experience in delivering designs, data modelling, and architecture for data systems.
* Proven track record in developing and delivering information system and data change in a large, multi-disciplined organization.
* Strong understanding of effective partnership working with third-party organizations.
* Ability to successfully engage with and influence both internal ScottishPower and Iberdrola groups, as well as regulatory bodies and industry working groups (Ofgem, DESNZ, ENA).
* Advanced experience in project management and cost management of capital investments in systems.
* Knowledge and experience with scalable data systems and architectures.
* High-level analytical skills and advanced data/IT abilities.
* High level of business planning, financial, and strategic thinking.
* High-impact influencing and negotiating skills regarding technical issues and solutions.
