We are looking for a practice nurse who can join our team to be one of 3 nurses.
Main duties of the job
It is essential that the applicant be an experienced practice nurse with treatment room skills and knowledge of QOF and chronic disease management.
It is desirable that you have a qualification in Asthma and COPD.

We are four GP's, three practice nurses and two Health Care Assistants. We also have an in house Pharmacist.
We are well known for having a supportive and friendy working atmosphere here at Westfield Road.
We play a strong role in our Primary Care Network and have been very active in the delivery of the covid vaccination programme.

Job summary:
The practice nurse will work as part of our primaryhealthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of the practice.

* Assist in andperform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by seniornursing staff and GPs
* Cytology
* Removal ofSutures
* Health Checks
* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* Routineimmunizations
* Requestingpathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
* Following agreedclinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
* Vaccine/coldchain storage monitoring and recording.
* Other tasks willinclude
* Maintaining andcleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
* Maintaining GPand Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
* Chaperoning andassisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
* Maintain generaltidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
* Ordering ofvaccinations to maintain stock levels
* Participation inadministrative systems in the Practice
* At all timesthere will be a need to maintain accurate records
* A duty to advisesenior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assignedtasks
* Attend andparticipate in any Practice meetings when required.

Health & safety:
The post-holder will implement and lead on afull range of promotion and management their own and others health and safetyand infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy,the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Controlpolicy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limitedto):
* Using personal security systemswithin the workplace according to practice guidelines
* Awareness of national standards ofinfection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual /professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
* Responsible for the correct andsafe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling,handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements
* Management and maintenance ofPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice including provision,ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage by staff
* Responsible for hand hygieneacross the practice
* Ownership of infection control andclinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of thoseprotocols across the practice
* Active observation of currentworking practices across the practice in relation to infection control,cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followedand weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues asappropriate
* Identifying the risks involved inwork activities and undertaking such activities in a way that managesthose risks across clinical and patient process
* Making effective use of trainingto update knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training ofothers across the full range of infection control and patient processes
* Monitoring practice facilities andequipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that provision ofhand cleansing facilities, wipes etc are sufficient to ensure a goodclinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated asappropriate.
* Safe management of sharpsprocedures including training, use, storage and disposal
* Using appropriate infectioncontrol procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile,and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / correctiveaction where needed or escalation to responsible management
* Actively identifying, reporting,and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazardsimmediately when recognised
* Keeping own work areas and general/ patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards /risks in relation to other work areas within the business, and assumingresponsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanlinessacross the business in consultation (where appropriate) with other sectormanagers
* Undertaking periodic infectioncontrol training (minimum twice annually)
* Routine management of own team /team areas, and maintenance of work space standards
* Waste management including collection,handling, segregation, container management, storage and collection
* Spillage control procedures,management and training
* Decontamination controlprocedures, management and training, and equipment maintenance
* Maintenance of sterileenvironments
Person Specification
Experience
* Must have experience working as part of a nursing team
* Must have knowledge of QOF and chronic disease management.
Qualifications
* Experienced practice nurse with knowledge of QOF and chronic disease management.
* Qualifications in Asthma and COPD are desirable.
* Qualified in Asthma and COPD
