The Opportunity

Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental Assurance Specialist this is a key role within the Sizewell Environmental Services and Assurance Team. You’ll play a key role in monitoring environmental performance, conducting audits, and driving sustainability initiatives across our operations.
The Role
You’ll work with the Environmental Assurance Lead to positively influence key stakeholders internally within the project, support the interface with regulators and associated projects to ensure processes and procedures for the management of environmental compliance the SZC project requirement.
You’ll perform complex environmental assurance activities across SZC design, procurement and construction activities, working closely with our established environmental subject matter experts. You will need to present outputs from these activities to various levels across the business including senior leaders and externally to regulators.
You will work independently in the development of a risk-based audit process and develop ‘deep dive’ environmental audits on various areas of the SZC project, including but not limited to: SZC site construction activities, and upcoming workstreams such as pre-operations and commissioning activities.
You will be a focal point for Sizewell C project, internal and contractors communicating good practice and demonstrate adherence to relevant policies and procedures. Interaction with others requires the ability to motivate and influence.
You will undertake SZC investigations into environmental incidents, complete interviews, review and evaluate documentation, undertake site visits and write final report, present to senior management at investigation review group.
The Skills
* Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
* Experience in environmental compliance, auditing, or sustainability programs.
* Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, EPA, OSHA).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
* Strong assurance and challenge skills with excellent communication/interpersonal skills notably with various levels of the organisation and externally.
* Certification in environmental auditing or compliance (desirable).
