Job Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established house builder in Shrewsbury. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing costs and contracts, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. This role is available on a temporary to permanent basis, offering an excellent opportunity to establish a long-term career with a growing company. Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage the cost control and financial aspects of housing projects from inception through to completion. Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cost reports to ensure profitability and cost efficiency. Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, quality, and compliance with budget and contract terms. Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and manage contractual obligations. Ensure all project costs, including labour, materials, and overheads, are accurately tracked and reported. Assist with procurement activities, including the preparation and management of tender documents. Provide advice on legal, regulatory, and contractual issues affecting the project. Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure effective communication and project delivery. Prepare and submit applications for payment and manage cash flow on projects. Take ownership of project variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring they are handled professionally and in line with company policy. Skills and Experience Required: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the house building or residential construction sector. A strong understanding of construction contracts, cost estimation, and project financial management. Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders. A high level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently. A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Excel, estimating software, or similar).
