We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Mass Spectrometrist to join our Protein Structure and Biophysics department, located in Slough, UK .
Abo ut the role
This laboratory-based position requires expertise in the acquisition and interpretation of peptide mapping and intact protein mass spectrometry data to provide structural characterisation of our therapeutic antibody molecules.
Who you’ll work with
The Mass Spectrometry team supports New Biological Entity (NBE) and New Chemical Entity (NCE) discovery from pre-portfolio investigation through to candidate selection within a department which incorporates cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, NMR and SAXS, alongside the protein production group. This role involves working closely with the MS team, the Protein Structure & Biophysics department and several groups in UK and global discovery.
What you’ll do
* Perform analysis of antibody therapeutics using mass spectrometric techniques
* Generate critical data to support candidate progression and selection
* Clearly communicate MS data on diverse antibody formats to multiple project teams
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to comprehensive data packages
* Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies
* Mentor other members of the MS team
* Ensure lab equipment is properly maintained and initiate appropriate repair and maintenance.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following experience and skills
* PhD and/or several years industrial laboratory-based experience in protein and peptide mass spectrometric analysis of antibodies and target proteins
* Hands-on experience and responsibility for Thermo Orbitrap / Tribrid and Waters instrumentation coupled to nanoflow and microflow UPLC systems
* Peptide mapping expertise
* Use of data analysis software packages for sequence mapping and intact mass deconvolution e.g. Protein Metrics Byos, BioPharma Finder, Proteome Discoverer or similar
* Appreciation of antibody and protein expression systems and purification protocols
* Managing or mentoring junior scientists within an MS environment
* Troubleshooting and maintenance of LC-MS systems
