Due to the expansion of our busy service, we are looking for dynamic individuals with excellent communication skills to join our Phlebotomy Service. You will work within a dedicated team that provides front-line care to hospital inpatients, outpatients, and GP patients.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to working, as the Phlebotomy service is provided 7 days a week and operated on a rota basis. You must be willing to work weekends and bank holidays. Excellent communication and organisational skills are integral to the post. Being proficient in venepuncture is essential in this role. Experience working with patients and staff in a hospital or blood test clinic setting will be an advantage.
You’ll play a key role in facilitating clear and effective communication between laboratory staff, clinical teams, and external clients. Whether offering advice, clarifying test requests, or addressing queries, you’ll do so in a professional and approachable manner. Strong IT skills will also be essential for communicating via various digital platforms.
In addition, you’ll manage stock levels by ordering supplies from Main Stores and rotating inventory to ensure efficient use of resources.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Participates in staff rotas as required and supports the Phlebotomy Supervisor to ensure that adequate staff levels are available to provide the inpatient and outpatient service.
2. Work on a one-to-one basis with patients and without direct supervision following competency assessment by the Phlebotomy Supervisor/Manager.
3. Performs venepuncture following correct procedures.
4. Positively checks patient identification by verbal communication and scanning of IP wristbands.
5. Accurate and legible labelling of samples.
6. Make enquiries relating to Phlebotomy requests through the appropriate channels.
7. Has a good understanding of the nature and purpose of the routine and specialist biomedical investigations/interventions required.
8. Understands any particular factors that may affect the selection of an appropriate venepuncture site.
9. Able to perform venepuncture on sites other than the subcubital fossa.
