OCU Nettworx (Part of the OCU Group) are currently looking for a Plant/Excavator Operative to join our team based in Newbury.
The Plant/Excavator Operative is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, such as excavators, bulldozers, and loaders, to carry out tasks related to construction, demolition, and site preparation. The role requires a strong understanding of safety procedures, machinery maintenance, and efficient operation to ensure the smooth and safe execution of site tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operation of Machinery: Safely operate plant machinery such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, and loaders for site excavation, trench digging, material movement, and other related tasks.
Site Preparation: Assist in preparing the construction site by clearing debris, levelling surfaces, and digging foundations or trenches.
Maintenance: Perform routine checks and maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance and report any faults or required repairs to the supervisor.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following site safety protocols.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other site operatives, engineers, and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and on time.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machinery usage, work completed, and any incidents that occur during operation.
Problem Solving: Quickly identify and address any issues that arise with machinery or site conditions to minimize delays or hazards.
Skills and Experience:
Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and manage heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
Attention to Detail: Strong focus on precision and safety when carrying out tasks.
Communication: Good verbal communication skills to coordinate with other team members and supervisors.
Problem-Solving: Quick thinking and the ability to troubleshoot machinery issues on-site.
Physical Stamina: The role is physically demanding, requiring good physical health and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Outdoor Conditions: The role involves working outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, and may require extended hours to meet project deadlines.
Physical Demands: Frequent bending, lifting, and moving of heavy equipment or materials is required.
CPCS/NPORS Certification: Must hold a valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) or NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) card for the relevant machinery.
Experience: Previous experience operating excavators or other heavy plant machinery in a construction or similar environment is required.
Driving License: A full UK driving license is often required.
Knowledge of Regulations: Understanding of relevant health and safety regulations, including LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
