The Haven is a mental health crisis unit which provides a 24/7 community based, clinical environment to provide comprehensive crisis assessments, reviews and support for service users experiencing a mental health crisis and who may also be waiting for an admission to hospital and is accessible to any person aged 18 or over who has a GP or residential status in Sussex.
The Haven unit provides a safe and comfortable clinical environment supported by a team of mental health staff. This affords an extended period of time (up to 23 hours) which may enable the dissipation of acute emotional crises and/or enable a comprehensive assessment to take place.
The Haven will provide an alternative waiting area for service users who have been assessed by MHLT or MHAA in ED. These persons will be medically clear, accepting of an informal hospital admission or have x2 medical recommendations insitu and are agreeable to being transferred to the Haven to wait for a bed. The requirement for a bed will be reviewed during their time in the Haven.

Living & working in Hastings:
Travel easily between coast and countryside, with a blend of picturesque villages and seaside towns there’s always new experiences to be enjoyed. The town is also host to lots of cosy pubs and quirky bars for you to visit, and good shopping facilities.
As HCA you will be supporting people attending the unit who will be offered a dedicated, personal space which will include a reclining chair, chair side locker and curtains which can be drawn to increase privacy.
The Haven will respond flexibly to all referrals and ensure that all decision making will consider the best interests of the service user at all times. Your role will be to support the service user and record observations and report any changes to senior staff. Our aim is to support mental health pathways across the wider health system in Sussex and within the Trust to reduce hospital admission where a community-based alternative could be provided.
The Haven is a mixed area accepting both male and female service users and, whilst this unit is not an inpatient facility, the team will need to consider how it will ensure that this mixed sex environment is managed and the needs and safety of the people using the service can be maintained. All staff will work to ensure that the privacy and dignity is maintained for people while they are under the care of the clinical team at The Haven.
This is a varied and rewarding role supporting people in our local area with their mental health needs. The team works shifts over 24 hours, 7 days per week and you will be part of this shift pattern of 07:00-19:30 or 19:00-07:30 hours.
