Modern Paper is a Tissue Paper Converting & Manufacturing company based in South East London. We serve the consumer market with toilet rolls and kitchen towels via cash-and-carry outlets and other retailers.
The team at Modern Paper brings decades of international experience in the professional hygiene and tissue paper conversion business.
Our state-of-the-art, fully equipped hub is centrally located to the East of London. This 4.5-acre facility is equipped with two brand new converting lines which are capable of producing 20k tonnes of paper product per annum.
Job Description
The Role
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for monitoring the machines and operation in order to discover and prevent potential problems, ensuring the optimal operation of production machinery, all maintenance and repairs of the machines, and troubleshooting all issues on machines. The holder of this role will report directly to the Production Manager.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring the optimal operation of production machinery
2. Locating and repairing the source of problems with production machines by observing the equipment in operation, using troubleshooting skills and testing equipment
3. Diagnosing problems and determining how to correctly repair issues as necessary
4. Ensuring inspection and maintenance tasks are being completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the planned maintenance schedule
5. Providing emergency or unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production time
6. Reducing downtime by informing/training machine operators of best practices for maintenance and operational techniques to use when operating equipment
7. Reporting all work activities and faults to the Production Manager
8. Completing all relevant paperwork in a timely manner
9. Assisting in test and commissioning of new machines
10. Making suggestions to improve quality, safety, or production
About You:
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will have the following skills and experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the UK or The Statement of Comparability
2. Previous Maintenance Engineer experience is essential, with 3+ years of experience in the paper or tissue converting production area
3. Experience operating tissue paper converting machinery
4. Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatic components
5. Experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment
6. Ability to read mechanical prints/drawings, manuals, and diagrams
7. Skilled in installing, inspecting, and repairing equipment in heavy manufacturing
8. Strong attention to detail
9. Positive attitude and teamwork
10. Able to work 5 days a week - Monday to Saturday, up to 9 hours per shift (1-hour unpaid break included)
11. You will be able to travel to DA8 2AT, Erith
