The University of Exeter Hockey Club is looking to appoint a Men’s 2nd Team Head Coach to help deliver within an already successful Hockey Programme. The Hockey Club is one of the largest and most successful sports at the university as well as nationwide. The Hockey Club was ranked no.1 in the 23-24 BUCS Season and competes in the England Hockey League at Division One South and Conference West.
Job Purpose
This role will be responsible for the delivery of the Men’s 2nd Team Training as well as attending fixtures, ideally home and away, in both their BUCS League and EHL Conference West League.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To deliver training to the Men’s second team on Mondays for 2 hours between the hours of 17:00-19:00 and Thursdays for 2 hours between the hours of 20:00-22:00. There are opportunities for technical sessions in 1:1 and small group settings.
2. To review and analyse both the team’s performance and scouting opponents using video via our Hudl Platform.
3. To attend and provide match day support at fixtures on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday afternoons.
4. To work effectively with other members of support staff such as S&C staff, Physiotherapists, Managers, and Sports Science Interns to maximise their areas of expertise and deliver the most effective programme possible.
5. Work closely with the Players and the Head of Hockey while maintaining positive links between opposition clubs, England Hockey, and British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS).
Knowledge and Qualifications
1. The ability to fulfil the role outlined above, with the knowledge and experience to run the team successfully.
2. ACP / Level 2 Coaching Qualification.
3. 2 years coaching experience within a team environment.
4. Current First Aid qualification or the ability to obtain prior to the post commencing.
5. Current Safeguarding qualification or the ability to obtain prior to the post commencing.
6. In-depth knowledge and understanding of the technical and tactical elements of the game, as well as a sound understanding of a performance programme within an educational setting.
7. Level 3 or Masters in Coaching.
8. Previous experience of coaching at Conference Level and in a BUCS / University setting.
Term starts on the 6th January with sessions running predominantly during term time and a competitive monthly rate of pay.
