We are looking for a Head of Organisational Capability & Development to join our team.

The newly formed Culture & Development Team is part of Wellcome’s broader People Team who are committed to powering Wellcome's strategy by recruiting, developing and retaining the right people, and helping them do their best work in an inspiring and supportive environment.
You will be leading the Learning & Development Team within the Culture & Development team reporting to Associate Director Culture & Development.
What will I be doing?
The Head of Organisational Capability & Development is crucial in enabling Wellcome to be an agile, mission-oriented organisation by designing and managing learning to optimise our talent and performance. This role involves leading the Learning & Development team to evolve their capabilities and impact, whilst using OKRs to ensure alignment with strategic goals and enhancing overall organisational effectiveness.
As a Head of Organisational Capability & Development, you will:
* Lead and motivate the Learning & Development team to ensure an agile and skilled workforce that supports organisational objectives.
* Conduct capability reviews, analyse data to identify trends, and inform development strategies for high performance and future agility.
* Design and implement learning programmes, manage budgets, and integrate capability frameworks across recruitment and performance processes.
* Promote a culture of learning, diversity, and continuous improvement, facilitating behaviour change and supporting inclusive practices.
* Guide performance management processes to align with organisational goals and strategic objectives, ensuring effective personal development planning.
* Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
Is this job for me?
You will need to have proven experience in leading high performing teams to deliver organisational learning/capability frameworks and talent strategies. You will exhibit strong strategic thinking skills, and an ability to translate strategies into plans that enhance organisational capability. You must be effective in influencing a variety of stakeholders, possess excellent communication skills and manage external partnerships efficiently. Proficiency in working with people platforms (like Workday), data preparation, insights analysis and project management are essential, with experience in using OKRs and coaching accreditation being desirable.
We are looking for someone who:
* Demonstrated knowledge of Wellcome’s mission and strategic priorities, with experience delivering key projects to high standards within tight deadlines.
* Ability to manage multiple projects across diverse stakeholder groups, utilising strong interpersonal and communication skills to build robust relationships.
* Proven experience in managing budgets and leading high-performing teams, fostering inclusive cultures and driving organisational capability.
* Strong strategic thinking skills, with a track record in implementing organisational frameworks and talent strategies to create meaningful workforce impact.
* Proficient in data analysis, project management, and using metrics for decision-making, with experience in performance and talent platforms like Workday.
* A motivated, adaptable individual confident in influencing stakeholders, building networks, and collaborating across functions to support Wellcome's vision and mission.
