RPS is looking to appoint Associate Directors to join our Archaeology Teams in London, Gloucester and Newark. These are opportunities for consultants to take on and develop an existing client base. The successful candidate appointed to join the London and Newark teams will be expected to attend the office at least one day a week. Our Gloucester team is home-based.
These positions would suit candidates with an existing consultancy background. We are equally keen to receive applications from candidates with an established fieldwork pedigree – ideally more than 5 years (with project management experience). You will be part of an experienced heritage team working on many of the biggest and most complicated heritage projects in the country. The bulk of our workload is in response to housing and distribution projects – but we are also increasingly involved in RPS led schemes for renewable energy, infrastructure etc.
What you will be doing
· Preparation of Archaeological DBAs, Environmental Statements and potentially Appeal related documents
· Project management of a range of projects of different scales across different sectors – ensuring that they advance on time and budget
· Line management and mentoring of junior staff
· Business development
· Liaison with clients, local planning authorities and relevant stakeholders
Who we are looking for
We pride ourselves on our commercial awareness and on our track record of rapid career progression. If you are ambitious and understand the Government’s need to build more houses and to expand our green energy infrastructure – we are the company for you. You have a part to play in delivering these objectives – and you will get to see and influence some great archaeological projects at the same time.
We are open to applications from candidates with an established consultancy background and those with project management experience in archaeological contracting organisations (and elsewhere). You should have the technical experience to be able to provide accurate advice on the archaeological implications of development. You need to be prepared to give clients advice that they don’t want (on occasion) and also to have the ability to find solutions to complex and seemingly intractable problems. You should have Associate or full Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (or be eligible for this), ideally have a relevant degree and a strong knowledge of the planning system. If you do not tick all of these boxes please do not be dissuaded from applying – we are keen to recruit and to mentor candidates showing the aptitude that we are looking for.
What is in it for you?
We are proud to be an accredited ILM training provider. We encourage and value different ideas, perspectives, and styles of thinking. You’ll be joining a diverse community and a company that puts its people first and prioritises their wellbeing. We identify the need to work flexibly, with agile offices and hybrid working offered as standard, we’re happy to communicate about flexible working. This is a workplace that works for you.
What happens next?
The Talent Acquisition Team will be in touch to let you know the outcome of your application. If your application is progressed, you will have the opportunity to speak informally with Duncan Hawkins, Simon Mortimer or Richard Smalley to answer any queries in advance of a more formal interview. The closing date for applications is Friday 24th January. Interviews are likely to be held in the first 2 weeks of February.
All applications will be considered.
