Job Summary:
Performs road maintenance and repair and/or other activities on roads throughout the County road infrastructure by operating various equipment required to complete various tasks. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Performs routine and emergency repairs to roads, including chip and seal roadways.
* Assists in preventative maintenance functions throughout the County roadway system.
* May operate vehicles and equipment to transport materials, tools, equipment and crew to job sites; cleans and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
* May be required to perform a variety of grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, fertilizing, planting, and utilizing various herbicides and or pesticides.
* Responsible for spreading salt and running plows in winter.
* Runs equipment necessary for trimming trees and brush, clearing ditches and clearing roadways such as paint stripers, dump trucks, jack hammers, snow plows, back hoe, high loaders, chain saws; may utilize a variety of manual, gas, and electric powered tools, as well has a wide variety of hand tools.
* Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards; practices safety when working on County roads with the appropriate safety barricades, cones, traffic control and any required traffic flags.
* Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, and asphalt repair and replacement.
* Responsible for preventing injuries with fallen debris, spills, broken locks, etc.
* Follows through with all assigned duties and work-related goals assigned by lead or supervisor.

Education/Experience:
High School diploma required. Demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the position and general knowledge of road and bridge safety preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Some knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in construction and repair activities.
* Must have regular and reliable attendance.
* Skill in operation of tools and equipment.
* Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
* Able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; must be able to obtain CDL.
* Ability to work safely and follow rules.
* Knowledge of applicable County policies.
* Knowledge of street construction rules, regulations, and procedures.
* Must have both written and oral communication skills to keep records, read instructions, and interpret directions.
* Must have a professional and polite attitude when representing the County on the job.
Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold for mowing and snow removal.
* Must be able to push, pull or lift heavy items regularly; up to 100 pounds.
* Repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
* Position may require some strenuous activity; must be able to walk, stoop, bend, lift and be on feet for long periods of time.
