An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic, forward-thinking team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to recruit a band 5 pharmacy technician; however, we would also consider a band 4 pharmacy technician looking for professional development opportunities to advance toward band 5. We are open to consider flexible working hours, secondment opportunities, and part-time hours if required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Any suitable band 4 applicants will be recruited into a developmental band 4 pharmacy technician post whereby you will be given support and training to complete set competencies to become a band 5 pharmacy technician. The expected timeframe to undertake and complete relevant competencies is between 6 months to a year.
You will be a key member of a range of teams across the department and the hospital, supporting busy wards and clinical areas, working closely with a range of healthcare professionals and our extensive Pharmacist team. Your work will include:
1. Initiating the Medicines Reconciliation process.
2. Ensuring patients have sufficient supplies of medicines for their hospital stay and beyond.
3. Counselling and educating patients on their medicines.
4. Playing an important and proactive role in the discharge process to facilitate safe and effective discharge.
5. Extended hours and weekend working to support patient care.
6. Co-ordinating the medicines management ward cover.
7. Dispensing, labelling & final checking of prescriptions.
Qualifications / training required
* Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC or working towards qualifications suitable for registration as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC within the next six months.
* Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent or IELTS test score 7 as required by GPhC if overseas candidate.
Previous or relevant experience necessary
* Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics).
* Dealing with customers and/or patients.
* Maintaining continuous professional development requirements or training portfolio.
* Hospital pharmacy experience Stock control/ordering experience.
* Providing a ward-based medicines management service.
* Aseptic pharmacy experience.
* Clinical trials or research experience.
* Experience of using JAC or similar pharmacy-based computer systems.
Aptitudes and skills required
* Communicate accurately and effectively in English with others both in speaking and in writing.
* Attention to detail and accuracy in work e.g. dispensing, calculations.
* Able to use a range of information technology programmes effectively.
* Demonstrate times when able to work effectively under pressure.
* Able to use initiative, but know their own limitations and professional boundaries.
* Tactful and show empathy.
* Demonstrates being able to organise their and others' workload and prioritise effectively.
* Effectively work as part of a team.
* Experience of supervision of staff or trainees.
* Participation in team meetings.
