Job Summary
We are delighted to offer a new post in Cardiff and Vale suitable for those candidates keen to gain more experience in emergency medicine at a post foundation training level but are also passionate about sustainability and are looking for opportunities to champion sustainable change.
This novel post will provide a solid grounding in Emergency Medicine in a tertiary Major Trauma Centre while also providing the opportunity to work on sustainability in the Emergency Department in order to reduce our environmental impact.
This 12 month post will be split 70:30 between clinical duties and sustainability.
The 30% of this post dedicated to sustainability will allow the successful applicant to pursue projects intended to contribute to Wales' plan for the public sector to be 'net zero' by 2030. This will primarily involve focusing on activities within the Emergency Department, working with our GreenED group, but also the wider Trust.
The appointee will have the opportunity to:
* Identify areas in our ED that negatively impact the environment
* Establish their own Environmental Sustainability projects
* Contribute to ongoing projects
* Inform and educate staff on the scope of the problem and update them on potential improvements and projects.
The post holder must be registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise.
The rotation is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holders would work at junior doctor level in the Emergency Unit. We would support the individual to develop skills and competencies across the breadth of Emergency Medicine, including but not limited to ultrasound, observational medicine, pre-hospital, paediatrics, and frailty. The clinical work in the Emergency Unit is well supported by middle grades and consultants throughout the 24/7 period. This is an opportunity to further develop and embed clinical skills and experience in emergency medicine.
To further support the career development of the post holder, the post is split into 80% clinical work and 20% professional development. We are able to offer development opportunities in clinical leadership, innovation, quality improvement and research, and could support a post graduate certificate or diploma in medical education or other related fields. It is anticipated that the post holder will contribute to teaching undergraduates in the Emergency Unit and at Cardiff University throughout the academic year.
