We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 3 Laboratory Technician in Blood Sciences. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Blood Sciences service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. You will be expected to work at Basildon Hospital, Southend Hospital, and the Hub laboratory.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be expected to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (dependent on experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards, and conform to Health and Safety regulations. You will be required to prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.
You will be required to work full time with a shift pattern which includes nights. Shift pattern:
* 08:00 am to 20:00 pm
* 20:00 pm to 08:00 am
* 09:00 am to 17:30 pm
* 08:00 am to 16:30 pm
Duties:
* Rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (dependent on experience and training) and perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices while maintaining high personal standards and conforming to Health and Safety regulations.
* Prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.
* Work within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of Associate Practitioners.
* Continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.
* Provide leadership and supervision, as directed, of trainee Medical Laboratory Assistants.
* Report all incidents and adverse events to senior staff.
Qualifications and Experience:
* NVQ3, or equivalent, level of knowledge, a minimum of 3 GCSEs.
* Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory.
* Knowledge of computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System, and Procurement system.
* High degree of dexterity required with working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing.
Desirable:
* Science A-Levels or a degree entry qualification.
* ECDL or equivalent knowledge.
