Job Description:
Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.
You will be making a leading contribution to the EU Horizon project “ACMod: Affective computing model from facial expression to mind-reading.” This project includes seven Universities and three industrial partners. You will work with Dr Hongchuan Yu (PI, Bournemouth University) focusing on mental health.
The overall aim of the project “ACMod” is to advance the understanding and modelling of naturalistic facial behaviours in social interaction. The Bournemouth University team focuses on applications in improving mental health services and collaborates with industry partners for future technology commercialization.
We seek applicants at an international level of excellence. The National Centre for Computer Animation (BU) has an international reputation in computer graphics and animation. It has strong links with prominent UK and global animation organizations and award-winning professionals. You will be part of this research centre, with opportunities to exchange research and develop industry networks.
To be considered, you must perform duties typical of a PDRA position with independence, leadership, and responsibility, including planning, funding, collaborating, publishing research, and mentoring students.
Responsibilities:
* Building a prototype mental health app with functionalities to assess user profiles for therapist recommendations and serve as a digital community platform for educational content sharing.
* Creating a MS Copilot-based VR/AR tool enabling clients to interact with virtual therapists, with professionals observing and intervening during sessions to enhance understanding and service quality.
* Possessing a PhD in computer science or related field, with additional degrees (e.g., BSc or MSc). Experience in app development for Android and iOS, with a track record of launching community-building apps is preferred. Contact Dr Yu for details if needed.
This is a two-year fixed-term appointment funded by the EU Horizon project “ACMod,” with potential renewal based on project progression.
BU values diversity and is committed to an inclusive environment. We consider flexible working or job share arrangements to support work-life balance.
