Deaf Community Independence CIC (DCI) is a small non-profit company supporting Deaf people to lead active, healthy lives, promoting independence, empowerment, and reducing isolation.
Location: Warwickshire
Hours: 5 - 20 hours per week. Flexible days to suit applicant and clients. Possibility of hours increasing in the near future.
Hourly rate: £12.25 - £13.50
Experience: Experience in PA / Support work or similar with Deaf adults. Have experience/interest in working with Deaf & DeafBlind BSL users. Experience of supporting Deaf people’s independence.
Skills:
1. Understanding of barriers within the Deaf community and the confidence to challenge discrimination.
2. Flexible attitude while supporting Deaf people within the community.
3. Able to translate basic correspondence for clients (e.g., utility letters).
4. Willing to accompany clients to health appointments, school meetings, Council appointments, etc.
5. Basic I.T. knowledge.
6. Awareness of risks associated with vulnerable adults.
7. Understanding of safeguarding procedures.
8. Aware of professional boundaries.
9. Able to work closely with, and handover client information to other staff and DCI Directors.
10. Confident BSL user.
Personal attributes:
1. Ability to use initiative and think outside the box.
2. Willingness to undertake a DBS check.
3. Open-mindedness to complex situations.
4. Car owner and able to travel within the Warwickshire area.
Responsibilities:
1. Meet Deaf clients in a variety of settings: their home, in the community, at appointments.
2. Support clients with accessing services: health appointments, independent living skills, booking health appointments, ensuring clients are safe, and raising complaints.
3. Meet clients on a prearranged date and time in an area of their choice.
4. Support clients within their allocated hours.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour
