Main duties of the job
As a Research Nurse you will work as part of the Clinical Research Team to support the safe conduct of research in accordance with the research governance framework and good clinical practice guidelines and provide assurance that the rights, safety, and well-being of trial participants are protected.
The post holder will work within the research team to plan, implement, organize, and manage concurrent research projects. Supporting on clinical trials whilst maintaining a high standard of care and have the skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG - or be willing to obtain these skills.
The applicant will develop networks with multidisciplinary teams across the trust and other appropriate local and national agencies.
The post holder will coordinate and manage the relevant study portfolio and deliver recruitment accrual in line with performance and monitoring objectives.
Job responsibilities
The NCRF Infrastructure sits within Newcastle University and encompasses the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at our Royal Victoria Infirmary site, the Clinical Ageing Research Unit (CARU) at our CAV site, the Dental CRF in our Dental Hospital and the Pediatric CRF which is co-located within our RVI site. We operate mainly as an outpatient facility with patients usually attending between Monday and Friday although occasional evening and weekend working is required as studies dictate.
The CRF specialises in early phase clinical trials as well as supporting complex later phase studies. We often support international trials and due to the nature of early phase research we are working with new and groundbreaking therapies, in specialty areas such as respiratory, rheumatology, mitochondrial research, and gene therapy.
This role requires an individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, effective time management, basic IT skills, knowledge of data collection systems and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
The successful candidate will work as an integral member of the CRF research delivery team to provide clinical care to study participants and their families who are participating in research. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse who wishes to develop clinical research skills.
* To participate in the creation and maintenance of a high-quality clinical research environment.
* To initiate and manage nursing activities related to academic studies and clinical trials, from initiation to termination, according to ICH good clinical practice guidelines.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
* Academic attainment at diploma level and prepared to undertake degree level study
* Meets Nursing and Midwifery council requirements for mentorship
* Current driving licence if relevant to role
* Academic attainment at degree/masters' level
Knowledge & Experience
* An understanding of the application of research in the clinical governance agenda
* An understanding of research governance and the research process
* Substantial post registration experience in clinical speciality area and/or clinical research delivery
* Evidence of research activity and ability to demonstrate research competency
* Experience of working within speciality
* Experience of supporting clinical research delivery
* Experience related to information retrieval and research application
* Experience of mentoring junior staff
* Evidence of current role expansion that can be applied to the role
* Experience of project management
