Dorset Integrated Care System is at the forefront of innovative pharmacy roles. As the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist / Nurse for Medication Safety and Medicines Innovation you will be supported to develop with opportunities for career pathways that are novel and challenging.
You will be the Trust Medication Safety Officer and in this role will be responsible for encouraging medication incident reporting and learning. As part of national, regional and local medicines safety networks, you will work collaboratively on medication safety to drive quality improvement within the organisation, across the Dorset Integrated Care System and further afield.
This post would be ideal for an ambitious and highly skilled pharmacist or nurse to develop their career and improve medicines safety in a combined Mental Health and Community Services NHS Foundation Trust, whose vision is to be better every day through excellence, compassion and expertise in all we do.
Main duties of the job
* To be the Trust Medication Safety Officer
* To lead on all aspects of medication safety and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that safety is improved
* To use innovation to reduce patient harm and improve patient outcomes and experience
* To lead on education and development in medication safety for Trust staff
* To support clinical teams and departments to improve safety in the use of medicines
* To lead on the implementation of National, Regional and local patient safety initiatives
* To maintain the profile of medication safety across the Trust and ensure effective trust-wide communication of medication safety issues
* To collaborate with other NHS organisations and healthcare providers to disseminate good practice and learn from other experiences

* Vocational masters degree in Pharmacy (4 years or equivalent) plus one year pre-registration training/BSc Nursing degree plus additional qualification to masters level
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council/Nursing & Midwifery Council
* Postgraduate clinical pharmacy diploma or equivalent experience/other post-graduate clinical qualification
* Clinical and critical appraisal skills
* Good knowledge of therapeutics and evidence based prescribing.
Desirable
* Registered Independent Prescriber
* Knowledge of NHS primary and secondary care working including working across the interface
* Experience of writing policies, protocols and procedures
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
