About Huddersfield New College
Located on a single site with a history dating back almost 70 years, Huddersfield New College (HNC) is a sixth-form college dedicated to providing a genuinely enriching and life-changing student experience for young people from the town and beyond.
Currently, the College delivers education across six faculties:
* Science and Maths
* Health and Sport
* Arts and Media
* Business, Information and Communications Technology
* Humanities
* Social Sciences
Through these areas of focus, the College currently supports over 2,000 students across what is a predominantly Level 3-based curriculum, and it provides English and Maths at GCSE. Almost all our learners are aged 16-18 years old. This academic focus, coupled with a comprehensive offer of enrichment activities, ensures that the college can work towards our overarching mission, creating a place where students love to learn and staff love to work. We do this by living our values daily: authenticity, passion, respect, self-discipline, innovation and empathy.
With these aspirations in mind, HNC focuses on ensuring that young people from the town and the wider region can access high-quality academic provisions that will help them realise their educational and future career ambitions.
HNC, led by our Principal, Marcus Smith-Connor, has gained a reputation across the sector for being not just an organisation that delivers excellent outcomes but also an inclusive and supportive place for its students. HNC is a college that celebrates diversity and strives to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
We are approaching the end of the first year of our strategic plan, and to date, we are proud of the successes we have achieved in relation to our strategic priorities. Our latest results showed that our students helped us achieve a 97% pass rate at Level 3, 70% of our A Level students achieved A*-C, and 69% of our BTEC students secured a high grade. These are great outcomes for our students and a further demonstration of the success we continue to realise.
Our most recent Ofsted grading of ‘Good’ (November 2023) clearly demonstrates our continued success. Indeed, this inspection also highlighted the outstanding behaviour and attitudes of our students, the outstanding personal development our students make, and the outstanding leadership and management of our college.
We consider ourselves privileged to have such a committed, high-performing group of governors that make up our Corporation. These individuals are each experts in their respective fields and dedicate much of their time to our college. Our Chair of the Corporation has recently had to step down from their role, so we now seek to appoint their successor and use this opportunity to appoint two more Board Members to help deepen the expertise on our Board.
Peridot Partners and Huddersfield New College are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
