Role To operate a mooring launch / tug in a safe efficient and seaman – like manner having due regard to the prevailing weather conditions, state of tide and operational limitations in accordance with the Marine Service Contract Valero, Puma, VPOT SHLNG & Dragon LNG Procedures, Group Policy and Local Operating Procedures. Principal Responsibilities. Assist berthing vessels and running mooring lines (as required) Ensure the craft is maintained in a seaworthy condition, and defects are reported. Inspect, maintain and replace (as required) mooring ropes and the vessel’s consumables. Undertake planned preventative and cosmetic maintenance. Monitor deteriorating weather conditions and remove the vessel to a safe sheltered area (Pembroke Dock as required) Carry out pre – use daily, weekly monthly and six weekly inspection routines. Participate in mooring operations and Safety Boat duties. Meet operational requirements by actively participating in voluntary overtime. Maintain the vessels store and submit replenishment requests as required. Maintain standards of performance and behavior as laid down for members of the shift team. Health and Safety Environment. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Group Health Safety and Environmental Policy. Adhere to Safe Working Systems. Set and maintain safe systems of work and housekeeping on board each vessel. Participate in all Tool Box Talks, Los Prevention Self Assessment (LPSA) and all other Terminal Safety initiative. Emergency Response Tasks. Respond to the Refinery’s fire alarm system. Man the vessels in readiness to assist with evacuation of personnel (if required) Run out spill booms in the event of an oil spill. Respond to an emergency as laid down in the Terminal’s COMAH. Technical Integrity. Boat Master License Grade 3 (valid for 5 years) Restricted Certificate of Competence in Radio Telephony VHF only. National Safety Passport (valid for 3 years) Breathing Apparatus training (valid for 1 year) Established knowledge and experience of jetty operations. OCIMF Marine Terminal Training and Competence Assessment. Ability to identify, analyze and solve minor mechanical problems. Predetermined response to audible and visual alarms. Recognized experience and leadership qualities. Communications / Reports. Ability to convey ideas or messages clearly, either orally or in writing. Liaise with the Shift Supervisor and Team Leader as to the Operational requirements. Liaise with the Shift Supervisor and Briggs Management team. Discuss berthing and sailing requirements with the vessels Pilot and or Master via VHF Radio. Innovation / Knowledge Transfer. Share knowledge and experience, especially with new recruits. Use initiative and demonstrate / promote creative thinking. Ability to identify and train deck hands for potential promotion to Coxswain. Team Working. Be open to change in working practices, procedures and any development within your scope of work and role within the Company. Promote and develop effective working relationship with fellow colleagues, other shifts and with the Client contacts. Participate in any training the Company deems necessary to enable you to carry out your duties safely, competently and efficiently.
