About the Role:
We’re one of the largest energy generators in the UK, with our main site in North Yorkshire covering 13 square miles. You’ll be supporting the activities of the Mechanical Engineering Department, working closely with the team’s Lead Mechanical Engineer. You’ll be getting stuck in on a diverse portfolio of projects across Drax power station and supporting a nationally significant asset, while learning invaluable skills for your future career at the same time.
As a Year in industry student, you can expect to get involved in projects such as biomass fuel collection, storage, material transfer conveyors & piping, pumps, fire detection & suppression systems, and Boiler engineering projects. You’ll work to collaboratively find the best solution, utilising your problem-solving skills and leveraging your knowledge gained at university.
Your development
You’ll receive a comprehensive welcome and induction to Drax and can look forward to a structured development plan of learning on our ICE training scheme. Our student ‘Power up’ development programme has been designed to provide you with essential and technical skills, and the opportunity to develop your business acumen and personal development.
Who we’re looking for
To be successful in this role you’ll be:
1. Working towards an MEng or BEng in Mechanical engineering or related subject.
2. Currently enrolled in a course that allows for a 12-month industrial placement.
3. Willing to travel to our site in Selby, Yorkshire Monday to Friday.
4. Strong technical skills with experience with 2D and 3D software.
5. Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially for preparing reports and working with spreadsheets.
6. Confident in your communication skills, developing the ability to effectively chair meetings.
7. Strong planning skills to support your project work.
