Internal Job Title: Volunteering Leader
Advertised Salary: £27,220
Location: Remote working, with travel across the regional network required.
Hours: 37 hours, Monday to Friday (with weekend availability, when required)
The Canal & River Trust looks after 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, believing that life is better by water. Every role plays its part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time.
We are looking for a Volunteering Leader to be based within our Direct Services team. Volunteering Leaders plan and deliver a wide range of volunteer activities, assist teams in managing volunteering activities, and liaise with volunteers and supervisors.
This role will involve:
* Integrating new volunteers into local teams; aiding with training and the setting up of PPE.
* Ensuring the health and safety of all volunteers.
* Supporting the scheduling of volunteering support on key construction projects.
* Aligning with our volunteering teams to ensure correct processes are followed.
* Supporting delivery of existing work – training will be provided.
Location & Coverage:
Remote working with a requirement to attend main hub spaces for team working and meetings. Travel throughout the Wales & South West and London & South East waterway network will also be expected.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Your first 6 months in role:
* Identify tasks where volunteers could help.
* Review skills required against existing volunteers and recruit new ones.
* Embed volunteers within the team and assist Task Managers.
* Induct and lead volunteers.
Key Accountabilities:
* Support recruitment and selection of volunteers.
* Advise Task Managers in volunteer management.
* Liaise with volunteers to understand capabilities and match them to opportunities.
* Assist in preparing volunteer requirements for the team.
* Promote a strong safety culture.
About You:
Must enjoy physical outdoor work and appreciate the needs of nature and our visitors. Comfortable dealing with the public and responding thoughtfully to unexpected situations.
* NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 in an appropriate subject or equivalent experience, desirable.
* Proven experience of working with and leading volunteers.
* Valid UK driving licence is essential.
