Trainee Solicitor (Full time, Fixed Term Contract - 2 years)
Join KCOM as a Trainee Solicitor on a two-year fixed-term training contract (Period of Recognised Training), designed to progress your legal career in-house.
You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative Legal team, gaining hands-on experience across the telecommunications and broadband sectors. From day one, you’ll contribute to KCOM’s operations by assisting the Legal team and providing direct legal advice to internal teams.
This is a unique opportunity to build on your experience in commercial law while working for a leading regional provider of communication services.

Salary – Between £23,000 to £26,000 dependent on experience
Location – Carr Lane, Hull, with hybrid working opportunity

Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice across a range of issues to minimize business risks.
* Research legal and regulatory topics to ensure KCOM complies with all obligations.
* Assist with the management and maintenance of KCOM’s property portfolio and network infrastructure agreements.
* Assist with the granting and implementation of wayleaves enabling access to land necessary for the maintenance and expansion of KCOM’s network.
* Manage claims for damage to other network infrastructure and claims for damage against KCOM’s network infrastructure.
* Support the development of standard contract templates and precedent agreements.
* Manage the contract signing process and ensure adherence to KCOM’s Delegations of Authority.
* Collaborate with external legal representatives to meet business needs effectively.
* Draft, negotiate, and review contracts with international suppliers, partners, and customers.
* Work with the Risk and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Although training will be provided, including day-to-day management and supervision by a Solicitor within the KCOM Legal team (who will also act as your training supervisor), the ideal candidate will have:
* An undergraduate degree at 2:1 level or above.
* At least 1 year of work experience, either within private practice or an in-house legal team.
* Demonstrable professionalism and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders of varying seniority.
* Exposure to an office-based environment.
* Strong organisational skills.
* A proactive mindset, with a commitment to learning and contributing to a collaborative team.
