Communications and Engagement Officer – Maternity Cover
Salary: £34,314 starting salary per annum plus £4,190 Inner London Weighting if based in London per annum.
Contract: 12 months fixed term Maternity Cover
Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks). We are open to discussing flexible or part-time working.
Location: Any Refugee Action Office: London, Manchester, Birmingham or Bradford. (Some travel in the UK with occasional overnight stays may be required).
About Refugee Action
Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of empowering people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. We do this by providing expert advice and casework, building the capacity of partner organisations and campaigning on the policies that affect them.
To succeed in the role you will need to demonstrate:
1. Commitment to removing barriers to power for people with lived experience, and commitment to anti-racist practices.
2. Understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with people from a range of cultures.
3. Insight into the needs, experiences and hopes of refugees and people seeking asylum.
4. Experience of working sensitively with people in vulnerable situations to support them to share personal stories in a collaborative way.
5. Excellent news judgement and storytelling with experience producing well-written and inspiring content.
6. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
7. Strong organisational and administrative skills, with ability to work under pressure and juggle conflicting priorities.
8. Experience working with photographers, journalists and filmmakers.
9. Experience answering journalist requests, including writing statements for media.
10. Experience of building and maintaining relationships at all levels of an organisation.
11. Excellent IT skills.
12. Ability to travel across England with occasional overnight stays away from home.
