Are you an experienced journalist and editor with expert knowledge of all things showbiz? Can you move seamlessly between digital, print, and magazine content? Then you may be our new Deputy Head of Showbiz.
This is a fantastic opportunity to define the editorial strategy for showbiz content, including celebrity and entertainment and TV for The Mirror and all Reach magazine titles including OK!, New, S magazine, Notebook, and Love Sunday.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds so we can continue to diversify our content.
This is a maternity cover fixed-term contract role, initially for 12 months.
This role is home and hub-based linked to our Canary Wharf hub (minimum 3 days per week in the hub). Therefore, we are looking for candidates based in and around London.
What will the role involve?
You will work closely with the Head of Showbiz to oversee and curate content across Mirror and Magazines platforms, stepping up when needed to lead conferences. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our content by steering weekly and monthly forward planning sessions, and you'll take the lead during live shifts on Showbiz as part of a rota. You will plan and oversee the day-to-day delivery of showbiz content across all shifts, collaborating with our Content Hub when necessary.
You will inspire your team's growth while expertly managing staffing needs, conducting monthly one-to-ones with your team, guiding their career journeys. Your creativity will help shape captivating showbiz content that boosts audience engagement, tracking audience trends to inform savvy coverage decisions. Building strong relationships with PR agencies and entertainment insiders will be key as you secure exclusive interviews and access to red carpet events, keeping our content fresh and exciting. This role involves shift working, including unsociable hours for events, evenings, and weekends on a rota basis, so a flexible approach is required.
Who are we looking for?
You are an experienced journalist and editor with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification, media law knowledge, and a proven track record of curating and overseeing showbiz content in a fast-paced newsroom or magazine environment. You have proven experience working across both print and digital, with the keen eye for detail to make quick content decisions.
You can assess and rewrite copy quickly, accurately, and effectively, ensuring that your team’s work meets our high standards. Whether it is celebrity feuds, pregnancy announcements, or breakups, you’re always in the know. You’re clued up on showbiz news from around the globe, with a particular interest in the UK and the US. You are a supportive leader who can inspire and guide our showbiz reporters and editors to exceed expectations.
