Job Description
* Champion quality standards ensuring consistent output from all technicians and fitters in the team.
* Work independently when modifying vehicle system to a very high standard
* Work independently conducting off vehicle modifications to vehicle system components
* Routinely mentor other staff, including contractors undergraduates & apprentices.
* Working in conjunction with Team leaders and Technician Supervisors to champion and lead small scale production/prototype activities
* Assist Production engineering to define processes in order to ensure repeatable quality of output in a timely manner
* Diagnosis of complex vehicle mechanical & electrical faults at component and harness/wiring level and conduct and direct appropriate sanctioned rework to the required quality standard
* Lead the strip, modification and build of vehicles for the installation of bespoke in vehicle electrical, mechanical and structural systems
* Liaise with and assist engineers with test and development of vehicle chassis and components to develop performance and handling
* Focus on continuous improvement - working with the engineering and production leadership teams to improve efficiency/quality during build.
* Ensure that any build sheet discrepancies are fed back appropriately to material control and production control.
* Lead health and safety standards and behaviours
* Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC group staff at all times.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in the automotive field with prototype vehicle modification and repair required
* Experience in the modification of automotive systems required
* Experience on working on EV/HEV preferable
* Experience of working with MoD and/or Automotive OEMs preferable
Core Competencies
* Skilled & competent vehicle technician
* Vehicle systems repair, modification & diagnostics
* Able to develop and follow procedures.
* Flexible and adaptable to new situations.
* Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
* Mentoring experience
* Some computer literacy required

* Industry trained with recognised motor vehicle

either NVQ level 2 or City and Guilds preferred.
