The role As a Senior Operational Technology Engineer, you will design and develop instrumentation, control, automation and telemetry systems for water and wastewater systems, both at process sites and within natural water networks. Reporting to a Principal OT Engineer, you will collaborate with our Systems Integration Partners, Operational and Project delivery teams across the business building and maintaining strong relationships with internal clients and external partners. You will be expected to work as the OT lead working with other disciplines (Electrical, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Modelling and Process etc) on major projects. Key accountabilities To maintain and develop Operational Technology Engineering expertise, embracing innovative new technologies and designs while providing project-specific Engineering design and issue resolution expertise. To provide input to the development of the UU Operational Technology Engineering standards, systems and procedures and ensure that activities undertaken and engineering outputs provided are in accordance with Health, Safety and Cyber Security Legislation and accepted practice. To work with suppliers and partners to develop technology roadmaps and provide strategic guidance for managing obsolescence and the deployment of new technologies. To provide guidance on Operational Technology, cyber security, instrumentation and control topics within United Utilities. To assist in second line, escalated support as required to maintain operations; and recommend optimisation opportunities d suitable long-term solutions to address any operational issues. To provide supervision and guidance of Graduate Engineers and Technicians and support the Monitoring and Control Principal Engineer. Skills & experience To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following criteria: Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with significant post-graduate experience and a good background knowledge of the OT Engineering discipline within the water industry. Good working knowledge of the interfaces with other disciplines e.g. Electrical, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Modelling and Process. Excellent analytical and communication skills and be able to lead a team of professional Engineers. Extensive industry experience of engineering, implementing and maintaining PLC and SCADA systems (specifically from Siemens). Sound technical understanding of OT architectures, experience in the application of Fieldbus and industrial networking for site systems. Understanding of hardware architecture design and connectivity to deliver OT solutions against a backdrop of an IT environment. Experience and expertise in aspects of security required to deliver against UU IT and OT security policies. Evidence of working with suppliers of services and equipment in the development of design solutions, standards and specifications. Ability to practically apply available and emerging technologies within OT engineering to deliver robust, reliable, commissionable, operable and maintainable plants within a regulatory environment. Extensive knowledge and experience of the OT discipline, processes, concepts and best practice. Excellent knowledge of the operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of the proposed OT engineering solutions Ability to write clear, concise, accurate engineering and design specifications with measurable outputs.
