We have an exciting opportunity for a Critical Care Band 7 Highly Specialist Physiotherapists to join our team on the Hammersmith Hospital site for a one year maternity leave cover.
Our friendly department is full of opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic physiotherapist who wishes to progress specialist clinical expertise and leadership skills within the field of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy. This post would be based at the Hammersmith site and would carry a clinical caseload within ICU and step down surgical wards. This would include a case load of patients within the cardio-thoracic, cardiology, hepatobiliary and upper GI specialties.
We are looking for an experienced band 6 or current band 7 physiotherapist, with a keen interest in the field of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy. You will have a wide range of clinical experience, good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering excellent patient centred care. You will have the opportunity to develop your specialist skills and knowledge in the areas of respiratory physiotherapy including NIV, ventilator and tracheostomy weaning and rehabilitation both within the critical care and ward environments.
As a highly specialist physiotherapist you will help with the day to day team management and have supervisory, teaching and training responsibilities. As part of your role you will initiate and participate in service development, audits and in-service training. You will have excellent support from the Band 8a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist and work closely with the well-established multi-disciplinary team.
We offer a comprehensive in-service training and induction programme, enhanced by simulation based on-call training. Internal and external courses are supported, and opportunities for postgraduate study exist. Our established appraisal system facilitates career development and progression.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder may lead a team and be responsible for providing an advanced standard of care to patients at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, which covers a multi-cultural and diverse population.
* The post holder will supervise the work of other more junior staff and support workers.
* The post holder may be rotational and will be expected to work across all sites of the ICHNT.
* The post holder will assist the Clinical Lead in contributing to the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the service. Together with other senior staff, you will act as a resource of specialist advice to the rest of the therapy service and other professions.
* For therapy services where there is current weekend working, the post holder is required to work at weekends as part of their contracted hours of work once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
* For physiotherapy services where there is an on call service: The post holder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy)
* Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio, especially in the relevant clinical area
* Clinical Educators course or equivalent
* Membership of the Professional Organisation
* Membership of Professional special interest groups relevant to speciality
Experience
* Significant recent clinical experience in relevant clinical area
* Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways and using outcome measures
* Previous Band 7 or equivalent experience in relevant post
* Experience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve quality of patient care
* Clinical research experience
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
* Advanced knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches for the effective management of relevant conditions
* Able to make sound judgments and reliable decisions in a variety of demanding situations
* Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
* Knowledge of recent NHS developments and their impact on service provision
