We make health happen
We’re looking for a well-versed Design Operations leader to propel our Design Operations and Design Systems to the next level of maturity.
Based in Media City in Salford Quays, you’ll join a passionate multi-disciplinary Experience Design team that’s focused on creating the best experiences for our customers.
You’ll use your superpower of stakeholder management to ensure that our design process is clearly communicated across delivery managers, product managers, subject matter experts, and engineering managers.
Working closely with our product design team, you will ensure that our design system is maintained, established, and ultimately ready to support our ambitious digital transformation.
You’ll help to establish career development paths for our entire design team and create individual career pathways for all team members.
The role
* Your goal will be to establish a highly efficient design process that generates high-quality outputs, ensuring that our wider team is aware of any changes.
* You’ll build strong ties with the wider team to help drive the success of our design system.
* Working with your design principal peers and the Head of Experience Design, you’ll redefine our design process by collaborating with our product management and engineering stakeholders to maintain the pace of SAFe agile.
* Manage the business aspects of design, freeing up designers to concentrate on design work instead of details like budgeting and hiring.
* Oversee and maintain the tools and kit that the team requires, focusing on managing a complex Design System that acts as the heart of the team.
* Invest in and create a design culture within the team that helps everyone in the organization understand the value of good design.
* Look after the procurement and responsibility of our design tools such as Figma, Asana, and Supernova.
How you’ll help us make health happen
* Determine what tools the team needs to work efficiently and standardize the tooling and systems used, while keeping close to new tools in the industry.
* Lead the education, implementation, and evolution of Bupa’s digital brand guidelines.
* Help manage the ongoing development of our Bupa ‘Anatomy’ Design System and prioritize the roadmap.
* Champion inclusive design in our design process, ensuring that we have a standardized procedure for accessibility.
* Create a culture where team members share knowledge generously with candor and respect.
* Evaluate team efficiency by ensuring meetings and ceremonies are streamlined and attended when necessary.
* Monitor design critiques to ensure designs are executed to the highest quality and processes are followed.
* Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the existing design process using the DesignOps framework.
* Reduce inefficiencies in the day-to-day workflow for the design team.
* Work with the Head of Experience Design to create job descriptions and share responsibility for recruitment and candidate interviews.
* Be responsible for onboarding new team members, including equipment and introductions.
* Define clear metrics of success and ensure designers align with them.
* Track design team case study wins and help socialize these frequently to build the case for user-centered design.
* Oversee the people management and quality standards of Design Operations and Design Systems team members.
* Establish strong cross-functional partnerships with other areas including IT services, Procurement, and Facilities.
* Evangelize design, helping everyone in the organization understand the value of good design and translate the language of design to other departments.
You
* Someone who believes design is more than just aesthetics; great design should create meaningful and relevant experiences for users.
* Obsess about detail and have a huge passion for delivering quality work.
* Displays an understanding of responsive web design, accessibility, and UX methodologies.
* Takes an interest in advancements in technology and techniques in design, encouraging development and collaboration within the team.
* Skilled in industry-standard software including Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite.
* A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
