About Caterpillar Defense Caterpillar Defense at Shrewsbury is responsible for the design, development and integration of engine and drivetrain packages to meet the needs of tracked and wheeled military products globally. The facility also provides remanufacturing services of industrial military engines, components and transmissions. Job Summary Leads team responsible for developing and implementing new and improved plant operations including production and manufacturing, maintenance, engineering support, safety, regulatory compliance, distribution and warehousing. Leading a team of engineers you play an integral role in the implementation of site improvement and NPI projects, What You Will Do - Coordinating capital projects for process enhancement and to improve customer satisfaction, conducting research and ensuring proper approvals. - Coordinating the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts. - Develops, analyses, and manages Manufacturing/ Assembly Projects. - Engages in creative problem solving to address operational issues including ergonomic/ safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, quality concerns. - Develop project proposals by creating cost estimates, technical specifications, identifying and qualifying suppliers, soliciting bids from qualified suppliers, performing project site audits, developing technical evaluations, and work area layouts. - Coordinating tool design, assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, etc. - Works with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to develop and deliver efficient and cost-effective systems and processes to produce quality products. - Provide capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, capacity increases, equipment and/or systems replacement, and methods and/or process improvements. - Manage executing capital projects from concept to implementation for new processes, assembly, test, tooling, etc. for assigned area. - Ability to utilize AutoCAD and Solid Modelling to plan/maintain Facility Diagrams and design jigs/fixtures or special tooling. - Provide manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification. - Design and Develop process documentation and Standard of Work in accordance with build process. - Trains new Processors and develops training programs for Processors and Assemblers. - Support of current process, production, and component process changes are in scope. - Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties. - Other activities include participating in 6 Sigma initiatives, strategy development, and supporting cost reduction goals. What You Have - Minimum HNC qualification in an engineering discipline - 2-3 years' experience in a similar role - Experience with budget management and capital project delivery. - Experience of using AUTOCAD and/or 3D solid modelling (CREO etc) - Knowledge of Industry 4.0, IoT and implementing Assembly Automation. - Previous experience in development of PFMEAs and control plans - Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and project planning skill. - Supervisory experience Desired skills and experience through previous roles: - Technical or university degree in an appropriate manufacturing or engineering related field, or equivalent experience in manufacturing engineering or design engineering. - Experience of FMEA's, SPC, Lean Manufacturing implementation, Error Proofing, and Root Cause Analysis. - Lean qualification, (Lean 6 Sigma, Lean practitioner).
