The London Center for Arcadia University, based in Holborn, is seeking to appoint a Lecturer for our course “A Black History of Britain”. This is a new course commencing Spring 2025, and we anticipate offering the course in both Spring and Fall semesters. The course meets once per week for a long teaching block (circa 3.5 hours) incorporating lectures, seminars, visits, and other class activities.
Approximately 800 US college students participate each year in Arcadia’s Programmes through the London Center. We host first-year students each year, and this course is likely to have a mix of freshman, sophomore, and junior year students enrolled. This position reports to the Associate Director of Academic Affairs.
Main Duties
* Finalising the syllabus for the course
* Teaching the above class (including preparation of teaching materials) at the set times and dates specified below
* Providing syllabus and course pack/reader details by the required deadline
* Providing academic advising, either face-to-face or via Canvas VLE or by email
* Arranging/accompanying students on co-curricular trips, where relevant
* Examination – setting examination questions, invigilation, and marking, including some second marking if required
* Completion of end-of-term assessment forms
* Attendance at academic staff meetings (up to two per semester)
Required
* Masters or equivalent relevant professional experience in the related field
* Past experience of teaching in higher education
* Demonstrable interest within the field
Desirable
* PhD in relevant field
* Understanding of the US higher education system
* Previous experience teaching within US higher education
Person Specification

Salary
£3,900 plus a 3.5% matched pension contribution. A course development fee to cover preparation time ahead of the course may also be payable.
